548 new cases

-

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 11, (Agencies): Partial curfew will most likely be imposed due to the rising number of citizens infected with coronavirus who are confined in the intensive care units (ICUs), reports Al-Qabas daily quoting a reliable source.

According to the source, the number of corona patients in the ICU increased significantly in the previous days; thereby, putting a huge burden on the shoulders of the medical staff, in addition to the increase in the number of deaths – 100 in 30 days.

The source hinted on the probability of imposing partial curfew to stop social gatherings and events, especially the gatherings in diwaniyas and others. The source disclosed that the health sector officials met recently to discuss the appropriate mechanism for dealing with the health situation in the country, particularly the corona pandemic.

The source affirmed the ministerial Health Committee will submit recommendations to ensure the safety of everyone to the Council of Ministers for the latter to take appropriate health decisions on Monday or on Thursday. The source reiterated that imposing partial curfew is highly possible, but this will be done only after taking the necessary precautionary measures.

In this context, the ministry is expediting the launching of a campaign on vaccinations for seasonal influenza and pneumonia – this week or next week at the latest. The ministry intends to double the quantity of vaccines to thrice this year, taking into consideration the rising number of coronavirus cases, the source revealed.

The source told the daily that the abovementioned vaccines strengthen the immune system; thus, relieving the symptoms of corona infection and reducing the number of influenza cases by up to 60 percent. The source warned that a person who suffers from influenza frequently is more susceptible to coronavirus infection that others.

Violators kept in check

The Ministry of Interior confirmed that the security sectors continue to address all violators of preventive health decisions issued by the Council of Ministers, including gatherings, and the instructions of the health authorities in the country due to the coronavirus, reports Al-Rai daily.

The ministry clarified that the violators of the Cabinet’s decisions to prevent gatherings inside the country were immediately dealt with and the law applied to everyone.

The security personnel on several occasions have broken up gatherings in several regions and homeowners were summoned, a case was registered against them, and referred to the competent authorities.

The Directorate-General of Public Relations and Security Media Department of the Interior Ministry has called on citizens and residents to fully adhere to the laws, instructions and procedures in place in the country to prevent gatherings, in order to ensure the safety of everyone and to avoid falling under the penalty of law.

The number of confirmed coronavirus infections in Kuwait rose by 548 on Sunday to take the cumulative total to 111,116, while a threefold increase in fatalities upped its death toll from the outbreak to 658, health ministry data showed.

In terms of health zones, Al-Ahmadi governorate recorded 145 cases, followed by 91 in Farwaniya, 123 in Hawally, 100 in the Capital and 89 in Jahra, ministry spokesman Dr Abdullah Al-Sanad revealed.

The number of people hospitalized with the virus stands at 7,190; 140 of whom are in intensive care units, said the spokesman, adding that 2,717 swab tests were conducted in the past day out of a total of 782,255 so far.

Some 546 people recovered from the virus in the last 24 hours to raise the total to 103,268, the ministry had earlier said.

Urging the general public to be mindful of health precautions, Al-Sanad said following social distancing rules was the only way to halt the spread of the virus.
