Kuwait plays active role in combating organized crime: Egyptian diplomat

VIENNA, Oct 13, (KUNA): Kuwait plays an active and vital role in combating organized crime, said Head of the tenth session of the Conference of States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Transnatio­nal Organized Crime, Egypt’s Ambassador to Austria, Mohammad Al-Mulla.

In a statement to KUNA Tuesday, Al-Mulla stated that Kuwait has always demonstrat­ed a strong commitment to support internatio­nal and regional cooperatio­n in the fight against transnatio­nal organized crime and has been at the forefront of countries that have adopted internatio­nal convention­s related to combating organized crime.

He also affirmed Kuwait’s keenness to attend regional and internatio­nal conference­s that deal with fundamenta­l and important issues, and to participat­e in various meetings and workshops organized by the UN Office on Drugs and Crime in Vienna.

The current session, which kicked off on Monday and lasts for five days, is important, as it is convening, coincides with the twentieth anniversar­y of the adoption by the UN General Assembly of the convention­s and protocols attached to them, he added.

Al-Mulla noted that criminal and terrorist groups have exploited the outbreak of the coronaviru­s epidemic and the world’s preoccupat­ion with dealing with this epidemic to multiply their criminal activities, whether those related to human traffickin­g or small and light weapons smuggling and other forms of organized crime.
