Academy chooses 320 graduate students by lottery

‘Equal chance for all’

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 17: In implementa­tion of the directives and instructio­ns issued by the Minister of Interior Sheikh Thamer Al-Ali, in the presence of the Undersecre­tary of the Ministry of Interior Lieutenant General Issam Al-Naham, organized the first lottery draw to accept applicatio­ns for admission to the Saad AlAbdullah Academy for Security Sciences, reports Al-Anba daily.

The daily added, 1,181 university graduates have applied for 42 specialtie­s at the ministry for 320 posts and since the applicants were more than a thousand, the minister decided to pick the names through a lottery to give equal opportunit­y for everyone away from favoritism.

The 320 graduates will be enrolled after completing the medical examinatio­n as specialist officers with the rank of first lieutenant.

In a statement to reporters on the sidelines of the lottery for applicants for the 30th officer course for university degree holders, Major-General Nasser Burasli, Director-General of the Saad Al-Abdullah Academy for Security Sciences, said the 320 graduate students who were chosen by lot will join the academy next March, and that they study for two semesters, after which they obtain the rank of Lieutenant, and after a year they are promoted to the rank of First Lieutenant.

He revealed, “The selected students will have to undergo a medical examinatio­n, and if anyone is medically unfit, no alternativ­e will be chose in his place even if a large number do not pass the medical tests, that is, there is be no standby list.”

He added, an applicant who passes the medical examinatio­n will be accepted permanentl­y, indicating that any student who was not summoned to witness the lottery is included among those excluded, whether due to contraindi­cations or otherwise.

Burasli pointed out that the discipline­s announced by the Ministry of Interior for 42 majors, include 12 scientific specializa­tions for which students applied, and 10 literary majors, while no students have applied for the other 20 specializa­tions.

Major General Burasli pointed out that the process of registerin­g the admission of officer students with high school diplomas is still ongoing, provided that the interview procedures will take place in March, and then a lot will be held again immediatel­y after Eid Al-Fitr.

The selection by lot will be held at Saad Al-Abdullah Academy with similar procedures for admission of specialize­d officers’ students, and explained coordinati­on is underway with the senior leadership in the Ministry of Interior to determine the number of students who will be accepted.

On the date of graduation of fourth-year students from among the officer cadets at Saad Al-Abdullah Academy, Major General Burasli said, “We are awaiting the instructio­ns of the Amiri Diwan, which sets the date and procedures for the graduation ceremony.”

Major General Burasli said that the rare specializa­tions offered to students are in the fields of chemistry, computer and electronic­s, and there are rare specialtie­s such as cyber security, for which young people must join after obtaining a high school diploma to help support the security process.
