KUWAIT CITY, Jan 23: Director of the Central Department of Primary Health Care at the Ministry of Health, Dr Dina Al-Dhabib, announced the launch of ‘For You’ campaign in cooperation with the Family Medicine Training Program for the Prevention of Cervical Cancer, which coincides with the month of awareness of this disease.
In a press statement, she mentioned the campaign aims to educate all women about the different methods of prevention of cervical cancer, the most important of which is the Pap (Papanicolaou test is a method of cervical screening used to detect potentially precancerous and cancerous processes in the cervix or colon) smear examination to detect the HPV virus available in the gynecology and maternity departments in primary healthcare centers and various hospitals.
She pointed out that due to the current circumstances and the campaign’s concern for the safety of everyone, the campaign was conducted in a safe manner, so that everyone could scan the barcode in the advertisement and obtain all the required information such as “the definition of cervical cancer; Method of examination, places where the examination is held in Kuwait, and other important information.”
Al-Dhabib called on the women to make an appointment as soon as possible to have a Pap smear from the Department of Gynecology and Maternity center or from the specialist attending gynecologist.
She indicated that cervical cancer is considered the third common cancer among women whose ages range between 15 and 44 years, noting that the average age of a woman when diagnosed with cervical cancer is 53 years, and that the average age of a woman when she dies from this cancer is 59.
