Pens top Flyers in front of fans for 1st time in a year
Vasilevskiy posts 3rd shutout in row as Lightning down Stars 2-0
PITTSBURGH, March 3, (AP): Kasperi Kapanen scored two goals and the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 5-2 .
The Penguins won in front of their fans for the first time in almost a year. Penguins’ players raised their sticks and saluted the fans in attendance following the win.
Bryan Rust scored his seventh, and Cody Ceci and Mike Matheson added goals for Pittsburgh, which has won five of seven. Tristan Jarry stopped 40 shots.
Joel Farabee scored twice for the Flyers, who had a three-game winning streak halted. Carter Hart made 22 saves for the Flyers.
Lightning 2, Stars 0
In Dallas, Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 28 shots for his third consecutive shutout, extending his scoreless streak to 200 minutes, and Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay beat Dallas.

Vasilevskiy also held the struggling Stars without a goal four days earlier at home, a 5-0 win in the first meeting this season between the teams that played in the Stanley Cup Final in the NHL bubble last September.
The three straight shutouts are a career best for Vasilevskiy, the 26-yearold goalie who has played all seven of his NHL seasons for Tampa Bay.
Ondrej Palat scored a power-play goal and Yanni Gourde added an empty-net goal with five seconds left.
Dallas has won only once in its last 10 games.
Canadiens 3, Senators 1
In Montreal, Carey Price made 26 saves and Montreal beat Ottawa to give rookie coach Dominique Ducharme his first NHL victory.
Jeff Petry and Brendan Gallagher each had a goal and an assist. Tyler Toffoli scored into an empty net for Montreal (10-6-5), which snapped a five-game losing streak.
Artem Zub scored for last-place Ottawa (8-16-1), which had won four of five. Joey Daccord stopped 30 shots in his second NHL start for the Senators,
Blue Jackets 4, Red Wings 1
In Columbus, Ohio, Joonas Korpisalo made 19 saves and Columbus scored three second-period goals in beating Detroit for the Blue Jackets’ first game in front of home fans in more than a year.
Cam Atkinson had a short-handed goal and an assist, and Riley Nash, Jack Roslovic and Boone Jenner also scored for the Blue Jackets, who snapped a five-game losing streak.
Anthony Mantha got his sixth goal of the season and Jonathan Bernier stopped 23 shots for the Red Wings before being relieved in the third period by Thomas Greiss, who had nine saves and allowed no goals the rest of the way.
Detroit has lost two in a row and three of the last five.
Rangers 3, Sabres 2
In New York, Pavel Buchnevich had a goal and an assist, Igor Shesterkin stopped 22 shots and New York beat Buffalo.
Chris Kreider and Alexis Lafreniere also scored for the Rangers, and Adam Fox had two assists. New York won for the fourth time in six games.
Sam Reinhart and Tobias Rieder scored for Buffalo, which has lost four straight (0-3-1) and nine of 11 (28-1). Carter Hutton finished with 16 saves and fell to 1-6-1 this year.
Islanders 2, Devils 1
In Newark, New Jersey, Semyon Varlamov made 28 saves and came within 14 seconds of his fourth shutout, and New York beat the slumping Devils in New Jersey’s first home game with fans in almost a year.
Rookie Oliver Wahlstrom and Anders Lee scored for New York, which is 9-2-2 in its last 13.
Varlamov lost his shutout bid with 13.2 seconds to play when Miles Wood scored with the Devils’ net empty. The Islanders were trying for their second straight shutout after Ilya Sorokin blanked Pittsburgh 2-0 on Sunday.
Aaron Dell made 18 saves in his second start for New Jersey, which has lost six of seven.
Hurricanes 4, Predators 2
In Nashville, Tennessee, Sebastian Aho scored twice to lead Carolina past Nashville.
Vincent Trocheck and Steven Lorentz also scored for the Hurricanes, winners of three straight. James Reimer made 35 saves.
Calle Jarnkrok and Mattias Ekholm had the goals for Nashville, which won its previous two games.
Juuse Saros stopped eight of 10 shots he faced in the first but was dinged on a collision. Pekka Rinne replaced him to start the second period and finished with 16 saves.
Jets 5, Canucks 2
In Winnepeg, Manitoba, Kyle Connor and Blake Wheeler each had a goal and two assists to lead Winnipeg.
The Jets avenged a 4-0 loss to the Canucks a night earlier as the teams completed a two-game set.
Mason Appleton, Mathieu Perreault and Paul Stastny also scored for Winnipeg. Mark Scheifele tacked on three assists. Laurent Brossoit stopped 30 shots.
Elias Pettersson and J.T. Miller scored for Vancouver. Brock Boeser finished with two assists and Braden Holtby had 34 saves.
BASKETBALL
Shackelford helped the Crimson Tide (20-6, 15-2 Southeastern Conference) score 10 straight points after the Tigers (12-14, 6-11) pulled to within five late.
Herbert Jones had 10 points, nine rebounds and six assists for the Tide. John Petty and Jahvon Quinerly each scored 11 points.
Jaylin Williams led Auburn with 13 points.
Arkansas, 101, S. Carolina 73
In Columbia, S.C., Moses Moody tied his career high with 28 points and Arkansas beat South Carolina for its 10th straight win in the Southeastern Conference.
The Razorbacks (20-5, 12-4 SEC) did it with the long ball, hitting 15 3-pointers.
Justin Smith had had 22 points, JD Notae 21 and Desi Sills 15, tying his career high with five 3-pointers.
AJ Lawson led the Gamecocks (613, 4-11) with 18 points.
Texas 81, Iowa State 67
In Ames, Iowa, Kai Jones came off the bench to score a season-high 17 points and lead four Texas players in double figures, and the Longhorns beat Iowa State.
Texas (15-7, 9-6 Big 12) led for all but 22 seconds, beating the Cyclones for the eighth time in 10 meetings. Iowa State (2-19, 0-16) was led by Jalen Coleman-Lands, who scored 22 points.
Courtney Ramey added 14 points for the Longhorns.
Texas Tech 69, TCU 49
In Lubbock, Texas, Kyler Edwards scored 17 of his 20 points in the first half to help Texas Tech take control, and the Red Raiders rolled past TCU.
The Red Raiders (16-8, 8-7 Big 12) followed a nine-point home victory over No. 15 Texas with another strong effort.
R.J. Nembhard scored 10 points on a rough shooting night (4 of 12) for the leading scorer for the Horned Frogs (12-11, 5-9).
Purdue 73, Wisconsin 69
In West Lafayette, Indiana, Freshman Zach Edey scored a career-high 21 points and Jaden Ivey added 18 to help Purdue hold on to beat Wisconsin.
The Boilermakers (17-8, 12-6 Big Ten) have won four straight and five of their last six.
Ben Davison led the Badgers with 15 points. Micah Potter and Nate Reuvers each had 11 points for Wisconsin (16-10, 10-9), which has lost four of its last five - all against ranked teams.
