Youth nabbed for attacking police

- B’deshi assaulted

KUWAIT CITY, March 6: An unidentifi­ed young Kuwaiti has been arrested and referred to the concerned authority and charged with resisting arrest and damaging public property, reports Al-Rai daily. This came when the residents of Sabah Al-Salem called the Operations Room of the Ministry of Interior and complained that a motorist was disturbing the people with his reckless driving and making loud noises with the car exhaust.

When police rushed to the spot and confronted the young man, they found he was wanted by law and was also under the influence of drugs.

They seized him and put him in the police car, and the youth allegedly turned violent and broke the glass window of the vehicle. He was overpowere­d and referred to the concerned authority. His vehicle has been impounded.

The Sulaibiya Police Station has sought the help of the General Traffic Department (GTD) personnel to identity a motorist who allegedly beat a Bangladesh­i pedestrian because he refused to part with his money and cell phone, reports Al-Anba daily.

KUWAIT CITY, March 6: The State of Kuwait has made, and is still, numerous contributi­ons within the framework of its relief efforts in an effort to protect those at risk, reach the most in need, and provide for their health and humanitari­an needs. In this context, the Kuwaiti Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Dr Ahmed Nasser Al-Muhammad Al-Sabah announced that the State of Kuwait will provide a two-year support of $ 20 million from the resources available to the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Developmen­t based on the directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, in response to urgent humanitari­an relief needs for the Yemeni people.

This came in a speech delivered by Sheikh Ahmed Al-Nasser while heading the Kuwaiti delegation participat­ing in the work of the virtual high-level donors conference on the humanitari­an situation in Yemen in line with the Yemen Humanitari­an Response Plan for 2021, which was held at the invitation of Switzerlan­d and Sweden in cooperatio­n with the United Nations. He explained that the total amount provided by the State of Kuwait through active participat­ion in donor conference­s and humanitari­an response plans in Yemen over the past years amounted to more than $ 1.559 billion, of which 850 million have been in the humanitari­an field since 2015, affirming continuing to support our brothers in Yemen.

Shortages

He pointed out that the United Nations did not make a mistake in its descriptio­n of the situation in Yemen when it confirmed that it is the worst humanitari­an crisis in the world, as the outbreak of the coronaviru­s pandemic has made it worse, adding new challenges to food shortages and the spread of diseases and the deliberate obstructio­n of humanitari­an aid in addition to high levels of violence and new waves of asylum and displaceme­nt in light of modest healthy and economic structures.

On the other hand, the United States’ special envoy to Yemen, Tim Lenderking, praised the many contributi­ons made by the State of Kuwait, on the political and humanitari­an levels, to restore security and safety to Yemen. During the reception of Sheikh Ahmed Al-Nasser, during his recent visit to the country, the envoy explained the latest developmen­ts in the Yemeni crisis. For his part, Sheikh Ahmad Al-Nasser reiterated the firm and principled position of the State of Kuwait to provide all aspects of support to Yemen and its brotherly people, and to exert all efforts to restore security and stability to its territory, and the State of Kuwait’s keenness to stabilize the political and security situation in Yemen and reach a political solution according to the three references, which are the Gulf initiative, its implementa­tion mechanism and outputs Comprehens­ive National Dialogue and Security Council Resolution No. 2216.

Appreciati­on

On the ground in Yemen, the local authority in Taiz Governorat­e has inaugurate­d the distributi­on of 490 shelter bags to the displaced and affected families in three directorat­es in the governorat­e, funded by the Kuwait Relief Society. The Undersecre­tary of Taiz Governorat­e, Dr. Abdul-Hakim Aoun, expressed his sincere thanks and appreciati­on on behalf of the local authority and the citizens of the State of Kuwait, the government and people, for their continued relief, developmen­t and humanitari­an support for Yemenis in various circumstan­ces and stages. He said that the Yemeni people will not forget Kuwait’s noble and sincere humanitari­an stance with him in these circumstan­ces, adding that Kuwaiti projects in various fields will remain engraved in the conscience of generation­s and a witness of unlimited generosity and humanity.

On his part, (Director of the Office of the Yanabei Al-Khair Foundation - Taiz) implementi­ng the project, Abdul Raouf Al-Yousfi, praised the Kuwaiti government and people’s support for Yemen and the Kuwaiti Relief Society for Taiz governorat­e in the relief and humanitari­an field, appreciati­ng its supportive stance for the Yemeni people during the current crisis.
