‘Recover Kuwait’s money stolen by embezzlers’

KUWAIT CITY, April 12: The Ministry of Finance’s move, in proposing an integrated tax management system and electronic services “ITAS”, coincided with the government’s work program for years 2021 to 2024, and referred to the National Assembly, has stirred parliamentary and popular concerns again, about government action during the coming period to approve new taxes, especially with the work stipulated in the program to approve 3 tax laws during the coming period, including selective taxes, value added, and unified tax procedures, reports Al-Rai daily.

Informed financial sources told the daily that ‘ITAS’ is an integrated system that contributes to modernizing tax administration, pointing out that any new tax law will not see the light except with the approval of the National Assembly.

One of the MPs said he totally rejects this government approach to impose taxes, calling on the government to recover Kuwait’s money stolen by the embezzlers from the citizens.

MP Muhalhal Al-Mudhaf said he is against approving any kind of taxes on citizens, and it will be an impenetrable dam in dealing with this matter.

Popularly, the government’s approach was met with a big “no” and a loud voice by citizens who have firmly expressed their refusal to apply taxes, asserting that it will not be correct to provide money without remuneration or taxes while the environment is fertile for corruption.

Citizens said taxation is rejected altogether saying people will not accept it until it becomes evident that the government is serious about ending corruption and recovering people’s money from the thieves who have escaped from the country after looting the money of citizens.
