Spain’s FM suspends Kuwait visit after team member tests positive
KUWAIT CITY, April 14: The Spanish ambassador to Kuwait, Miguel Moro Aguilar said the visit of the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, Arancha Gonzalez Laya, was cancelled after a member of the delegation tested positive when the delegation arrived at the Kuwait International Airport, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
The ambassador said in a statement the minister held a number of talks that were on the agenda from his hotel room. He pointed out the minister held talks with her counterpart, Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Dr. Ahmed Nasser AlMuhammad, as well as with the Prime Minister and Chairman of the Kuwait Investment Authority, where they discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two sides.
The two sides also discussed the regional situations, exchanged visions, and agreed to adopt a peaceful solution to the differences in the Middle East and the Gulf region.
Moro Aguilar revealed the Kuwaiti Foreign Minister will visit Madrid whenever circumstances permit, without setting a date for the visit, in order to sign two memoranda of understanding (MoUs) regarding political consultations and cooperation between the diplomatic institutes of both countries and an appendix of an agreement in consular affairs, and that the signing will take place in the capital Madrid during the upcoming visit of the Kuwaiti Foreign Minister.
Moro Aguilar also indicated that the Spanish Foreign Minister brought with her three messages to strengthen relations between the two countries, but these letters could not be delivered after one of the delegation members tested positive for the Covid-19 virus.
Two of the letters were addressed by the King of Spain, King Philip VI
to the Amir HH Sheikh Nawaf AlAhmad and the Crown Prince, Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad, and the third letter was from the Spanish Prime Minister to his counterpart Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled.
