‘Abundant foodstuff for Ramadan’

KUWAIT CITY, April 14: The Ministry of Social Affairs and Community Development, represented by the Cooperative Societies Sector, has solved the egg shortage in the local market by providing abundant supply of eggs in the sales outlets of cooperative societies in view of the increase in demand before holy month of Ramadan and this was achieved after the cooperatives were allowed to allocate

special funds for direct importation of eggs, reports Al-Qabas daily.

Assistant Undersecretary for Cooperative Affairs Salem Al-Rashidi confirmed the ministry quickly took action after receiving reports about the shortage of eggs in cooperative societies as it instructed the Cooperative Supervision Department to facilitate procedures for the cooperatives to allocate funds for direct importation of eggs.

He pointed out the shortage of eggs was just a minor crisis as large quantities of eggs were immediately distributed to the vegetable markets and cooperatives.

He stressed that the cooperative societies in various parts of the country have fully prepared for Ramadan to ensure abundant supply of food products and consumer goods.

He added the crowd of shoppers in some central markets, cooperative branches, parallel markets and wholesale markets is normal before Ramadan. “We assure citizens and expatriates that the supply of Ramadan commodities and other items in cooperative societies is abundant -- more than enough to meet the needs of everyone,” he concluded.

Meanwhile a few days earlier, the main sales outlets – the cooperative societies and supermarkets -- suffered from a shortage of Kuwaiti and imported eggs.

A survey conducted by the Al-Seyassah daily showed there is widespread scarcity and people run here and there just to buy eggs.

The daily met shoppers at poultry shops, consumer cooperative societies and other distribution outlets, and everyone complained about the shortage of eggs.

The Undersecretary of the National Guard, Lieutenant General Hashim Al-Rifai, honored Sgt Fahd Saleh Al-Fahd of the National Guard affiliated to the Chemical Defense and Radiation Monitoring Center, for his patriotic and humanitarian duty, reports Al-Seyassah daily. General Al-Rifai said this comes in recognition of values and principles that the National Guard has walked since the start of its formation in caring for the societal and humanitarian aspect, in addition to its security and military role.
