KUWAIT CITY, April 14: The Public Authority for Roads and Land Transport (PART) said 88 percent of the work has been completed on the construction, completion and maintenance of roads, bridges and other projects in the vicinity of Jaber AlAhmad Hospital and parts of the Sixth Ring Road and King Fahd Highway.

PART explained the project is one of the largest infrastructure and highway projects which will reduce traffic congestion since bridges and tunnels have been built based on previous traffic studies, in addition to doing away with the traffic signals at some intersections.

The sources told Al-Seyassah daily the project consists of developing the South Surrah region in 3 main sectors on each of the Sixth Ring Road and King Fahd Bin Abdulaziz Road (Road 40), in addition to 3 internal intersections.

The work as a whole includes the construction of 14 bridges -- 8 flyovers, 6 at ground level, and 4 tunnels in the vicinity of Sheikh Jaber Hospital, in addition to two pedestrian bridges and 11 bus stops.

The sources continued saying the work goes undisturbed 24/7 at all the implementation stages of the project through cooperation and coordination between all the parties working on the project that will reduce traffic congestion during peak hours, reduce traffic accidents rates, and achieve the high levels of safety and security.

The sources indicated the project includes the basic services such as the construction of huge rainwater tanks, water collection tank in front of Sheikh Jaber Hospital, to avoid the scenario of flooding in case of heavy rains and storms which form the main project services, which is being implemented for the first time in the region which has a capacity to hold 37,500 cubic meters of water.

As for the micro-tunneling sewage lines have been built underground. The sources pointed out the project is receiving great interest and close follow-up by the departments of the Ministry of Public Works, PART and all ministries and other concerned institutions, given the great importance of this project and its sensitive location between government buildings and residential areas.

The Kuwaiti engineers also play an important role in following up the management of the South Surrah project to ensure that it is on the right track with high quality work, as they follow up the work of both the consultant and the contractor and facilitate all obstacles with the technical authorities in the interest of the work, the project and the state.
