Indian Embassy marks World Blood Donor Day
Ambassador praises donors for strengthening healthcare system
KUWAIT CITY, June 15: The Embassy of India in Kuwait celebrated the World Blood Donor Day Monday evening, June 14, at its premises.
In his opening address the Indian Ambassador to Kuwait H.E. Sibi George praised the blood donors for strengthening the healthcare system on a broader macro level and appreciated the efforts of various Indian community associations for organizing blood donation camps in Kuwait.
On the World Blood Donor Day, the ambassador said, it is very important to remember and honor the blood donors whom he described as ‘unsung heroes’.
“Today, let us also remember and thank our medical professionals, our doctors and our nurses who silently do their job and on most occasions go beyond the call of their duty to help our brothers and sisters in need particularly in during this devastating pandemic situation,” the ambassador said.
He underlined the importance of such social work activities and encouraged these medical professionals and blood donors to continue the good work. In a special ceremony the ambassador also felicitated the blood donors and distributed certificates to Indian blood donors who had donated blood on more than ten occasions in Kuwait.
During the event, Dr Amir Ahmed, President of Indian Doctors Forum in
Kuwait highlighted the significance of blood donation.
In a video message, Dr Hanan AlAwadhi, Director of Blood Transfusion and Administration Services, Kuwait, congratulated the blood donors from the Indian community and highlighted the crucial role played by the well organized, committed, voluntary Indian blood donor groups.
Dr Hanan emphasized that the role played these groups ensured safe and sufficient blood supply to those in need during this extra ordinary time.
Earlier in the day, in a telephone conversation with Ambassador George, Dr Al-Awadhi appreciated the exemplary role played by the Indian volunteer groups in ensuring supply of safe blood in Kuwait.
Dr Sadaf Alam, who works for the Sabah Maternity Hospital also explained in detail various aspects of blood donation.
The event, which witnessed enthusiastic
participation and response from people from all walks of life in Kuwait and was live streamed on the Embassy’s social media handles, was amongst a series of events, the Embassy organized under the banner of Indian Cultural Network (ICN) as part of a confluence of two important milestones: India@75, and 60th Anniversary celebrations of establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Kuwait.
The World Blood Donor Day (WBDD), which was organized for the first time in 2005 by a joint effort of the World Health Organization, the International Committee of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to raise awareness among blood donors of the need for safe blood and blood products, and to thank blood donors for their voluntary, life-saving gifts of blood, is celebrated on June 14 of each year. The event was organized for the first time in 2005.
