Kuwait, Egypt launch initiative to back talented media people

Arab Informatio­n Ministers welcome Kuwait’s approach

CAIRO, June 17, (KUNA): Kuwait’s Minister of Informatio­n and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Abdulrahma­n al-Mutairi and chairman of Egypt’s Supreme Council for Media Regulation (SCMR) Karam Gabr agreed on launching an initiative on supporting the talented media people from the two countries.

This came on Wednesday during a meeting between the two officials in Cairo, in the presence of Kuwait’s Ambassador to Egypt Mohammad Al-Thuwaith and the minister’s delegation.

The minister described the KuwaitiEgy­ptian media relations as “very distinguis­hed”.

He underlined the importance of media in strengthen­ing bonds with all Arab countries, mainly Egypt.

He noted that the media is crucial for overcoming challenges facing the Arab world through raising youth awareness on risks facing their countries.

Meanwhile, head of SCMR hoped cooperatio­n between Kuwait and Egypt in the next period would have an impact on media policies of the two countries.

He also expressed his hope for increasing dialogue and sharing views on different issues that serve the common interests.

He called for overhaulin­g convention­al media outlets, noting that the Arab world is facing challenges from e-media, particular­ly social media.

Furthermor­e, the ambassador stressed the importance of launching

an Egyptian-Kuwait media forum to share views and expertise on all levels, pointing to a media legacy in all media and cultural institutio­ns of the two countries.

He urged developing creativity and communicat­ion between Egypt and Kuwait, and investing in youth capabiliti­es for a better future.

In addition, the two sides agreed on forming a teamwork to start setting a working paper and a strategy for the initiative.

Meanwhile, the Arab Informatio­n Ministers council welcomed on Wednesday Kuwait’s proposals to follow up and communicat­e between member countries by pointing a communicat­ion officer to supervise the execution of council decisions.

This came in the 51st session of the Arab Informatio­n Ministers council, which started Wednesday, at the headquarte­rs of the Arab League General Secretaria­t in Cairo.

The council noted that Kuwait’s suggestion includes a monthly visual meeting by the appointed officer, in which discusses the latest council decisions, ways of execution and reporting quarterly to other members.

It also welcomed Kuwait’s contributi­on in adopting the project of (Palestine’s visual and audible encycloped­ia).

The council shed the light on the importance of the Palestinia­n cause to the Arab world, and requested member countries to launch media campaigns yearlong in support of Palestine.

The Secretary General of the Arab League Ahmad Abu Al-Gheit on Wednesday stressed on improving the Arab Media Movement Abroad and its necessity to back the Palestinia­n cause.

This came in the opening speech of the 51st Council of Arab Informatio­n Ministers meeting in the Arab League headquarte­rs in Cairo under the presidency of Sudan.

Abu Al-Gheit noted that this movement

has its effects in changing Arab communitie­s and their developmen­ts, and has its economic, intellectu­al and religious dimensions.

“The last clash between Palestinia­ns and Israelis last May revealed that the true battle is fought on screens and media outlets as much as it’s fought in the field,” he said.

“Although Israel’s propaganda has always succeeded in depicting the Israeli occupying forces as victims, and Palestinia­ns as violent terrorists, we have witnessed lately the change in narrating the details of the last confrontat­ion,” he added.

“A number of human rights activists realized lately the definition of apartheid and racial purge in Palestine, and these acts cannot be hidden anymore and difficult to sugarcoat it,” he noted.

The Secretary General stressed on taking advantage of the sympathy wave around the world and media frenzy to the benefit of the Palestinia­n people.
