Indian schools hold webinar by Dr Thomas
KUWAIT CITY, June 17: “Learning is the process whereby knowledge is created through the transformation of experience” — David A Kolb.
As it is rightly pointed out by many renowned personalities, it does not need years or days for certain dignitaries to influence us, it only takes a few hours. A very informative and influential virtual webinar, ‘Experiment to Experience’, was organized for the staff of ICSK-Junior and ISEK on 13th June 2021, wherein, they were transported to a whole new world of “Experiential Learning”. The speaker of the day, Dr. Siju Thomas T, the most competent person, has a wide range of experience and has laid hands on multidisciplinary arenas as a homeopathic doctor, trainer with expertise in behavioral and learning disorders, soft skill development trainer, a corporate mentor, better known as parent’s consultant, happiness coach, value consultant, lifestyle management expert, stress management trainer and the list goes on. Dr. Siju is the author of ‘New Generation Parenting’, a book for parents.
Principal, Mrs. Sherly Dennis, acknowledged about the acclaimed speaker through the words of the resolute to the members present. She said that teachers get to learn something from their experiences and that we all should always be ready to accept the change around us. Dr. Siju Thomas enchanted the listeners with a fair amount of knowledge and boosted their energy levels through an engaging and interactive session.
Dr. Siju presented examples from prominent movies and books to relate on how personal experiences can transform a person’s life leading him to revelations and enlightenment. A curious mind is very necessary to be influenced by this method of learning, because those who have a ‘why’ to live can bear with almost any ‘how’.
He discussed on experiential learning, which is precisely, learning by doing. He emphasized on the fact that, firstly, students should be encouraged to think and solve problems methodically. Next, he said that as teachers, we need to lead our students to more interaction with peer, which will develop self-confidence.
According to Dr. Thomas, the four pillars of experiential learning cycle are Concrete Experience, Reflective Observation, Abstract Conceptualization and Active experimentation. Lastly, and the most important of all, doing activities in class, may lead to or develop experiential learning.
Principal Mrs. Sherly Dennis presented the memento to Dr Shiju Thomas, on behalf of both the schools. The participants of the webinar commended on the skillful rendition of the subject by the speaker and the kind words of gratitude from Mrs. Sheeja, Vice Principal of ICSK Jr, proved that the session was relished by every single participant.
