New Egyptian envoy:

Following the end of the 4-year tenure of the Egyptian Ambassador to Kuwait HE Tariq Al-Qoni, the Al-Seyassah daily has learned that Ambassador Osama Shaltout is expected to succeed the outgoing ambassador.

The Egyptian Official Gazette is expected soon to announce the name of the new Egyptian envoy to Kuwait.

Ambassador Shaltout has earlier worked at the Egyptian Embassy in Kuwait and is currently the Assistant Foreign Minister for Sudan Affairs in the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and before that he has served as his country’s ambassador to Khartoum.

Palace sold for KD60mn:

The Palace in Zahra, Block 2, which belongs to the heirs of Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad has been sold in an auction for an initial price of 60 million dinars, reports Al-Qabas daily.

The palace was bought by businessma­n Ibrahim Al-Asfour after three other bidders who had shown the interest to participat­e in the auction withdrew.

The sources reported the palace, designed in the form of an island has a total area of 63,000 square meters, and is built on a high plateau fenced with palm trees.

140 citizens benefit:

Citizens participat­ing in ‘Ahsmha’ — a program for granting incentives to consumers who contribute to rationaliz­ing electricit­y or water consumptio­n and those using photovolta­ic energy system in private housing — have started to reap the fruits of their participat­ion in this project, which was launched by the Ministry of Electricit­y and Water in December last year, reports Al-Rai daily quoting reliable sources from the ministry.

Sources revealed to the daily that 140 citizens have so far benefited from the incentives provided by the project to its subscriber­s. Sources said the savings from rationaliz­ing consumptio­n have been transferre­d to the concerned citizens’ accounts in the ministry, indicating the incentive is deducted from the amount due in the beneficiar­ies’ bills.

Hunt for missing boy:

Personnel from the Khaitan Criminal Investigat­ion Department (CID), have intensifie­d their search for a 9-year-old Egyptian boy, who was reported missing Monday evening while he was playing in front of the building where he lived with his parents, reports Al-Rai daily.

The daily added, when the boy failed to return home, his panicked mother went looking for him and raised an alarm and called her husband when she could not find him in the neighborho­od.

The child’s father then filed a complaint with the Khaitan Police Station.

Man held with drugs:

Jahra Security patrolmen have arrested a Kuwaiti for consuming drugs and possessing suspected narcotic substance.

However, the security sources told the Al-Seyassah daily that seized items have been referred to the competent authority for analysis.

The same sources told the daily the Kuwaiti was arrested for reckless driving and while issuing a citation the officer discovered the man was in an abnormal condition.

Just to meet girlfriend:

Personnel from the Criminal Investigat­ion Department (CID) have arrested a Kuwaiti for entering a hotel to meet his girlfriend, AlRai daily reported recently.

A security source said the arrest came after the well-known hotel in the Capital Governorat­e informed police that a suspicious looking ‘woman’ had entered the hotel premises.

When police went to the hotel with permission from the concerned authority to check the hotel room which was booked in the name of the man’s alleged girlfriend (believed to be a Kuwaiti) adjacent to her room where she stayed with her children, they found the lover boy who had entered the hotel disguised as woman — wearing an abaya and niqab.
