Cashing balance leave of govt sector staff still under ‘Finance’ discussion

‘Pandemic doubles need to implement proposal’

-

KUWAIT CITY, June 23: The issue of government employees cashing their balance leave days is on the table of the Ministry of Finance and is believed to be still under discussion, stressing that there is almost an agreement to give the go-ahead for the proposal that has been submitted by the Civil Service Commission which is awaiting the final approval, reports Al-Rai daily quoting a reliable source.

The source said the proposal enables the employee to cash his balance leave during service, stressing that there is a tendency from the Council of Ministers to approve it, but there are reservations from the Ministry of Finance regarding the possibility of providing the necessary liquidity for its implementation.

The source indicated that the corona pandemic doubled the need to implement the proposal due to the inability of many employees to go on leave, either because they were considered frontline workers in the medical or security field and had to keep the work going without taking a vacation.

He added that there are also parliamentary proposals in this regard, meaning that the proposal has the government-parliament support.

The source indicated the Council of Ministers is fully aware of the importance of putting in place alternatives for employees who were unable to benefit from their periodic vacations due to the Covid-19 crisis and this situation has necessitated cashing balance leave.
