Decision to install tinted windows for all vehicles

‘Windshield transparent’

-

KUWAIT CITY, July 3: In response to the circulating audio clip regarding the ministerial decision to install tinted windows on all types of vehicles, the General Traffic Department clarifies that this decision was issued after conducting a comprehensive study in this aspect, reports AlAnba daily.

It explained that the decision was based on several factors. They include the climatic conditions of the State of Kuwait, the health conditions of some motorists with medical justifications and recommendations to avoid direct sunlight. Modern vehicles from the manufacturers of some agencies come with tinted windows in line with the development of the automobile industry. Also, it is in reference to the ministerial decisions issued by the Gulf countries regarding the varying percentage of tint as per the specifications of each country.

Based on these studies, the ministerial resolution No. 864/2020 issued on October 28, 2020 was issued to amend Article No. 46 pertaining to window tints of vehicles. It included allowing the installation of tinted windows for all types of vehicles, provided the degree of transparency is between 30 percent and 70 percent except for the front windshield, which must be of the transparent type in line with the Gulf standard specifications and with the prohibition of installing reflective glass.

The implementation of the aforementioned ministerial decision resulted in issuance of 46,904 traffic citations from January 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021, let alone the inability to pay the fine until the vehicle is inspected by the Technical Inspection Department and ensure that the tint has been removed.

Coordination was made with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to warn companies and institutions specialized in installing vehicle window tints to follow the ministerial decision and the third American specifications AS3.

The Technical Inspection Department of the General Traffic Department periodically inspects vehicle repair and paint workshops and automobile body-work shops in coordination with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Kuwait Municipality. It issues citations in this regard in an effort to implement the aforementioned ministerial decision.
