Committee for Ozone Affairs holds first meeting
KUWAIT CITY, July 14, (KUNA): The Kuwaiti National Committee for Ozone Affairs and Climate Change held its first meeting for the fiscal year 2021-2022 in the presence of Minister of Oil and Minister of Higher Education Dr. Muhammad Al-Faris.
Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director-General of the Environment Public Authority Sheikh Abdullah Ahmad Al-Hamoud Al-Sabah told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the meeting dealt with a package of environmental issues and measures and an executive plan for preparing the document of national contributions that the Authority intends to submit to the secretariat of the United Nations Convention on Climate Change 2025.
Sheikh Abdullah Al-Sabah explained that the committee reviewed, during its meeting, the proposal for the general framework of Kuwait’s Low Carbon Strategy 2050, which will be based on the idea of a circular carbon economy with its four pillars, namely reducing emissions, eliminating them, recycling and reusing them.
He stated that the general framework of the strategy was based on the development vision New Kuwait 2035 and Kuwait Petroleum Corporation Strategy 2040 and the initiatives and projects proposed for implementation during the next 10 years.
He stated that the Minister of Oil listened to the developments of development projects from the assistant undersecretaries in the concerned authorities in the country, including the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research and the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation. Sheikh Abdullah Al-Sabah pointed out that the committee recommended assigning the Environment Public Authority to prepare a proposal for the implementation plan for Kuwait’s low carbon strategy and to submit a proposal for the next national contributions document.
