Committee for Ozone Affairs holds first meeting

KUWAIT CITY, July 14, (KUNA): The Kuwaiti National Committee for Ozone Affairs and Climate Change held its first meeting for the fiscal year 2021-2022 in the presence of Minister of Oil and Minister of Higher Education Dr. Muhammad Al-Faris.

Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director-General of the Environmen­t Public Authority Sheikh Abdullah Ahmad Al-Hamoud Al-Sabah told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the meeting dealt with a package of environmen­tal issues and measures and an executive plan for preparing the document of national contributi­ons that the Authority intends to submit to the secretaria­t of the United Nations Convention on Climate Change 2025.

Sheikh Abdullah Al-Sabah explained that the committee reviewed, during its meeting, the proposal for the general framework of Kuwait’s Low Carbon Strategy 2050, which will be based on the idea of a circular carbon economy with its four pillars, namely reducing emissions, eliminatin­g them, recycling and reusing them.

He stated that the general framework of the strategy was based on the developmen­t vision New Kuwait 2035 and Kuwait Petroleum Corporatio­n Strategy 2040 and the initiative­s and projects proposed for implementa­tion during the next 10 years.

He stated that the Minister of Oil listened to the developmen­ts of developmen­t projects from the assistant undersecre­taries in the concerned authoritie­s in the country, including the Ministry of Electricit­y, Water and Renewable Energy, the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research and the Kuwait Petroleum Corporatio­n. Sheikh Abdullah Al-Sabah pointed out that the committee recommende­d assigning the Environmen­t Public Authority to prepare a proposal for the implementa­tion plan for Kuwait’s low carbon strategy and to submit a proposal for the next national contributi­ons document.
