Iraq talks key for stability: EU
BRUSSELS, Aug 30, (KUNA): The European Union Sunday said the Conference for Cooperation and Partnership held on Saturday in Baghdad “is an important step in efforts to support Iraq’s sovereignty and stability to promote de-escalation, dialogue and regional solutions to problems in the Gulf.
“The European Union commends the Government of Iraq, with the support of France for rendering this event, possibly showing the crucial bridge-building role the country can play in the region.
“The EU wholeheartedly welcomes these efforts, which it stands ready to continue supporting,” said EU’s lead spokesperson for foreign affairs and security policy, Peter Stano, in a statement.
“This Conference shows the way forward for the region, based on partnership and cooperation. It is an opportunity that should not be missed,” he added.
The EU was represented at the Baghdad conference by Stefano Sannino, Secretary General of the European External Action Service.
