-

The air customs officers of the Search and Inspection Department at the Air Cargo terminal thwarted an attempt by an unidentified ‘importer’ of pallets to smuggle sachets of tobacco into the country, reports Al-Rai daily.

The daily added the shipment arrived from the United Arab Emirates and the contraband (sachets of chewing tobacco) was found hidden inside the pallets.

The daily said customs officers acting on a tip-off put the shipment under surveillance and after it arrived at the Air Cargo Department, found 29 cartons hidden inside four ‘pallets’.

It is known that importing chewing tobacco into the country is forbidden because it is causes throat cancer and is listed as a kind of a drug.
