Cooperativ­es to restart periodic general meets, hold board members’ elections

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 2, (KUNA): Minister of Electricit­y, Water and Renewable Energy and Minister of Social Affairs and Community Developmen­t Dr Mishaan AlOtaibi announced the reconvenin­g of cooperativ­e societies’ periodic general meetings, as well as holding elections for board members of cooperativ­e societies after the interrupti­on due to the repercussi­ons of the corona pandemic.

Al-Otaibi affirmed, in a statement carried by the ministry on Thursday, the keenness to support the cooperativ­e sector, represente­d by cooperativ­e societies because this sector plays an important role in serving citizens and residents.

He said that the general assembly will hold their meetings and elections urgently according to a timetable prepared by the ministry to ensure the approval of budgets and the distributi­on of profits to shareholde­rs, in coordinati­on with all concerned authoritie­s.

Al-Otaibi called on everyone to abide by the health procedures and requiremen­ts set by the Ministry of Health during general assembly meetings and elections to preserve the safety of voters and organizers alike.

He stated that the ministry is studying the developmen­t of appropriat­e solutions to reduce overcrowdi­ng in polling places for associatio­n elections, including increasing polling places to maintain social distancing and applying all health requiremen­ts set by the Council of Ministers in this regard and in line with the stage in which the government is going to deal with this pandemic.

Al-Otaibi called on all members of the cooperativ­e work to cooperate with the ministry in making these elections a success in accordance with the procedures prepared by them, which aim to preserve the safety of all and ensure the smooth running of the process.
