Cooperatives to restart periodic general meets, hold board members’ elections
Abide by health procedures: minister
KUWAIT CITY, Sept 2, (KUNA): Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy and Minister of Social Affairs and Community Development Dr Mishaan AlOtaibi announced the reconvening of cooperative societies’ periodic general meetings, as well as holding elections for board members of cooperative societies after the interruption due to the repercussions of the corona pandemic.
Al-Otaibi affirmed, in a statement carried by the ministry on Thursday, the keenness to support the cooperative sector, represented by cooperative societies because this sector plays an important role in serving citizens and residents.
He said that the general assembly will hold their meetings and elections urgently according to a timetable prepared by the ministry to ensure the approval of budgets and the distribution of profits to shareholders, in coordination with all concerned authorities.
Al-Otaibi called on everyone to abide by the health procedures and requirements set by the Ministry of Health during general assembly meetings and elections to preserve the safety of voters and organizers alike.
He stated that the ministry is studying the development of appropriate solutions to reduce overcrowding in polling places for association elections, including increasing polling places to maintain social distancing and applying all health requirements set by the Council of Ministers in this regard and in line with the stage in which the government is going to deal with this pandemic.
Al-Otaibi called on all members of the cooperative work to cooperate with the ministry in making these elections a success in accordance with the procedures prepared by them, which aim to preserve the safety of all and ensure the smooth running of the process.
