UN official hails Kuwait’s humanitarian role
KUWAIT CITY, Sept 4, (KUNA): Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and the Resident Coordinator in Somalia, Adam Abdulmawla, praised the leading humanitarian role of the State of Kuwait.
In a statement to KUNA Saturday after meeting Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) Chairman, Dr Hilal Al-Sayer, Abdulmawla hailed the role played by the KRCS in providing aid and assistance to the afflicted and the needy in different regions of the world, especially Somalia.
He said that the meeting dealt with the humanitarian situation in his country and ways to enhance joint humanitarian action there, providing an overview of the difficult living conditions in most parts of Somalia.
For his part, Al-Sayer praised the efforts of the UN in Somalia and the humanitarian and relief activities in various social sectors.
He stressed the KRCS interest in improving the humanitarian situation in Somalia as a priority to overcome different challenges.
Meanwhile, President of the Arab Parliament (AP) Adel Al-Asoumi praised on Saturday, the “great role” played by the State of Kuwait on the Arab, regional and international arenas through “wise diplomacy, rational, and discreet policy” led by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf AlAhmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
In a statement issued by the Arab Parliament, Al-Asoumi praised as well the support by His Highness the Crown Prince, Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad AlJaber Al-Sabah, which enhances Kuwait’s role in facing the challenges facing the Arab world.
The remarks were made during a visit by Al-Asoumi to the permanent representative of the State of Kuwait in Cairo and the permanent representative to the Arab League Ambassador Ahmad AlBakr, which also included the deputy permanent representative, Advisor Falah Al-Mutairi, and senior members of the Kuwaiti mission.
Al-Soumi said that the State of Kuwait, with its “moderate international policy”, was able to maintain “balanced relations” with all parties in a way that enabled Kuwait to play an “active role” in the region and to be appreciated and respected in the regional and international levels.
The Kuwaiti Ministry of Finance partook in the 46th annual ministerial meeting of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) Board of Governors, held in Tashkent between September 2-4.
The finance ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states, including Kuwaiti Finance Minister and Minister of State for Economic Affairs and Investment and Governor of Central Bank of Kuwait Khalifa Hamada, participated in the 46th gathering, the Ministry of Finance said in a press release.
The gathering, which also attracted representatives from national, regional and international finance organizations, focused on major global economic issues, according to the release.
During the meeting, the State of Kuwait was elected member of the Board of Directors of the Islamic Corporation for the Development of the Private Sector, representing the Arab Group between 2021 and 2024, it added.
