Speaking on the sidelines of his meeting with Filipino Labor Attaché Nasser Mustafa recently, Al-Dakhnan pointed out that raising awareness on the rights and duties of domestic workers stipulated in the above-mentioned law will prevent problems among the concerned parties.

He said the two sides agreed to organize a joint workshop to educate domestic labor offices on the Domestic Labor Law number 68 of 2015, indicating the workshop aims to explain the provisions of the law to the domestic labor offices and the workers.

He added the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Philippine Embassy are expected to hold regular meetings this month to review the latest developmen­ts regarding the memorandum of understand­ing on domestic workers and update it if necessary.

He asserted the Kuwaiti law is one of the best internatio­nal laws in the field of domestic worker recruitmen­t; because it grants domestic workers unpreceden­ted rights, while protecting the dignity and rights of these workers at all levels. .

In addition, the Domestic Labor Department announced that the number of Filipino domestic workers decreased by 2,543 in the first three months of this year.

Despite the decline, Filipino domestic workers ranked second in terms of the number of domestic workers in the country after the Indians. The total number of domestic workers reached 651,000 as of March this year.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Public Works has obtained approval from the Central Agency for Public Tenders (CAPT) for the fourth change order in the tender contract for the design, constructi­on and maintenanc­e of pedestrian bridges and bus stops in various parts of the country, reports Al-Anba daily quoting sources.

With this change order, the value of the contract signed with a constructi­on contractin­g increased by KD453,000 or 14.030 percent; in addition to an extension of eight months for the design and constructi­on of a pedestrian bridge on Fahd Al-Salem Street next to Jahra Gate, sources disclosed.

Sources said the project includes pedestrian bridges connecting the following: Al-Nasr Club and Ishbiliya, Farwaniya and Khaitan on Road 55, Ardiya and Al-Salam Mosque, Ardiya and Al Mikhayal Mosque, Ardiya and Farwaniya Hospital, Khaitan and Al-Zahraa on Airport Road 50, Hatim and Al-Salam, and Waha and Jahra.
