Yemen relief tops priorities of weekly ‘humanitarian’ efforts
Praises for Kuwait’s humanitarian role continue
KUWAIT CITY, Sept 4, (KUNA): Relief and development work in Yemen topped the priorities of humanitarian efforts made by Kuwaiti institutions and organizations on a weekly basis to support the displaced and needy in the region, while praises for Kuwait’s humanitarian role continued, this time from Turkey and Tunisia.
The humanitarian work carried out by Kuwaiti institutions in Yemen during the week ending Friday varied between financing a project to build a village for the displaced, inaugurating another water project, and concluding a third project concerned with empowering young people technically and professionally.
Beginning with the Yemeni governorate of Al-Hodeidah, its governor Al-Hassan Taher, last Wednesday, laid the foundation stone for the establishment of a residential village consisting of 50 units to house the displaced in the coastal city of Al-Khokha in the west of the country, with funding from the International Islamic Charitable Organization in the State of Kuwait.
In a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Taher expressed his thanks and appreciation to the HH the Amir, government and people of Kuwait for these “qualitative” humanitarian contributions that help alleviate the suffering of Yemeni citizens.
He praised the “sincere” positions and the “noble brotherly” support provided by Kuwait and its charitable and relief organizations to support the Yemeni people, “which comes as an extension of decades of development support” for Yemen.
He stressed the importance of the qualitative humanitarian project (fraternity village), which guarantees dozens of families a “dignified and stable life”, with the housing and facilities it provides, and “services that help these families to pay attention to improving their living conditions and educating their children.”
Generous
He expressed his deep thanks and appreciation to the International Islamic Charitable Organization in the State of Kuwait for its generous support and contribution to alleviating the humanitarian crisis in Yemen through its active participation in the impressive humanitarian campaign ‘Kuwait by your side’, which continues its activities for the seventh year in a row in various relief and development fields.
The governor of Hodeidah Al-Hassan Taher also inaugurated last Wednesday an integrated emergency water project powered by solar energy, benefiting more than 31,000 citizens in the city of Hais in the governorate, with funding from the Kuwait Relief Society.
In a statement to KUNA on this occasion, Taher said that the Yemeni people will not forget Kuwait’s noble hands, which extended to it with quality and influential projects in various fields throughout history, especially under the current circumstances.
Campaign
For his part, Deputy Director-General of the Kuwait Relief Society office in Yemen, Adel Baeshen, said in a similar statement to KUNA that the integrated emergency water project in the city of Hais, which comes within the campaign ‘Kuwait by your side’, is one of the important projects in the interventions of the Society in Yemen.
Baeshen explained that the association worked to strengthen the water network which was “almost collapsed”, especially since the area is considered one of the hottest regions in Yemen during the summer.
Also last Wednesday, the Kuwait Relief Society concluded a project to empower young people technically and professionally, which included training 850 male and female trainees from the governorates of Aden and Taiz in nine different areas according to market needs.
The Acting Governor of Aden, Badr Mu’awon, said in a speech during a ceremony held on this occasion that the State of Kuwait provides humanitarian and development projects in all Yemeni governorates and carries goodness and loyalty to the Yemeni people without asking any in return or publicity.
For his part, the project coordinator at the Yemeni Wisdom Society implementing the project, Amr Basil, explained that the project is one of the important projects that contribute to providing young people with knowledge and skills to launch with confidence and experience towards the labor market.
Kuwaiti humanitarian work during the week ending Friday was not limited to Yemen only, as it also extended to Sudan, where the Kuwaiti embassy in Khartoum launched on Thursday an urgent aid campaign to support flood and flood victims, including about 1,000 families.
Chargé d’Affairs, Muhammad Ghazi, told KUNA that the aid funded by the International Mercy Society will be distributed through the Sudanese Welfare Organization with the aim of alleviating the impact of the current flood disaster in Sudan.
He stressed that the aid comes as an affirmation of the Islamic values firmly rooted in the Kuwaiti people, which was built on love and goodness, and a continuation of the role of the leader of humanitarian work, His Highness the late Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, may his soul rest in peace, and a continuation of efforts under His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
