KOC signs contract for new 3D seismic survey
KUWAIT CITY, Sept 6: According to an official source from the oil sector, the Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) signed a contract for the execution of a new three-dimensional(3D) seismic survey in order to discover the capabilities in the West Kuwait region, especially Mutriba region for oil and gas reserves with BGB, which is the world leader in seismic surveys and is affiliated with the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNBC), reports Al-Anba daily.
He explained that the recently signed contract amounted to KD 41 million (equivalent to $137 million). It has an implementation period of about five years, including the seismic survey, which may take two years, in addition to a sufficient period of time for data analysis and interpretation.
The start of three-dimensional seismic surveys for the West Kuwait and Mutriba regions will happen by the end of this year.
The source said, “These operations aim at implementing a high-resolution seismic survey for the development of oil-producing wells in Manakeesh and Abdali fields and other fields.
These surveys aim at enhancing the development processes and obtaining a greater understanding of the oil reservoirs in the region. The latest international technology is used for carrying out the surveys and getting a clearer understanding of the operations of managing oil reservoirs in the region.
The last seismic survey carried out in the West Kuwait region was in 1995.
The seismic survey of the Mutriba region would also be promising, especially since the region is separated in Northwest Kuwait, which contains oil potentials, and should be developed and explored in the best way”.
He added that these surveys will give very important data about this region to depths of almost 25,000 feet underground, which are characterized by accuracy, depth and area.
