Municipality plans new projects

‘No obstacles’

-

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 7: According to a report prepared by the Projects Sector of Kuwait Municipality, headed by the Deputy Director General Eng. Nadia Al-Shuraideh, the sector will launch four projects in the coming three years, and will follow up on four projects that were launched in the last five years, reports Al-Qabas daily.

The report revealed that investment companies had excused themselves from participating in the projects of the recreational service center in Egaila area and the labor cities in South Jahra.

The report highlighted that there are no obstacles, and the plan is under implementation and constant review.

The municipality proposed several projects for study in the last five years. They are :1. The waterfront project in South Jahra - A booklet of terms of references was prepared, and submitted to the consulting offices where it was evaluated. The project was awarded to one of the companies to conduct a consultancy study for the project, which consists of five implementation phases according to the concluded contract. Work is currently underway on the fifth and final stage, and current completion rate is 95 percent.

2. The Educational and Cultural Center project on Abdullah Al-Ahmad Street - A booklet of terms of references was prepared and reviewed. The project was submitted to a consultancy office to conduct an integrated study. After evaluation, it was awarded to one of the companies to conduct the consultancy study for the project. The project consists of four implementation phases in accordance with the concluded contract. Work is currently underway on the second phase, and the completion rate has reached 35 percent.

3. The service and entertainment center in Egaila - It is being implemented with the cooperation of the PublicPrivate Partnership Projects Authority. The contract was signed to provide advisory services for the project in preparation for offering it to the private sector for investment. This is the best way to implement the project, given that the investing companies excused themselves from participation, and given the failure to submit the study on the specified date for several reasons.

4. The labor cities project in South Jahra - This is being carried out with the cooperation of the Public-Private Partnership Projects Authority. The contract was signed to provide advisory services in preparation for offering it to the private sector for investment.

In the year 2020, due to the conditions of the COVID19 outbreak, and after the withdrawal of all investing companies except one, another extension was requested by that company due to the health conditions in the country. Eventually, that company withdrew as well and the project was referred to the concerned authority to determine the optimal method of implementation. The authority has been waiting for the decision of the supreme committee to date.

In this regard, the report clarified the municipality’s plan for the next three years, including performance indicators and numerical goals for the plan. The following projects are expected to be presented :1. The Friday Market project in Jahra Governorate Bids were submitted by consultancy offices. A committee will be formed for evaluation and then the 17-month advisory study will begin.

2. The Tent Market project in Jahra Governorate Work is currently underway to complete the procedures for submitting the project to the consulting offices.

3. The service and entertainment center in Egaila Coordination is currently underway with the concerned authorities in Kuwait Municipality to change the distribution of the proportions of the components of the project located in Egaila, Block 5, as specified by the Municipal Council’s decision issued on August 6, 2013, in order to align with the needs of the governorate where the project is located, and to raise the economic feasibility when the project’s proposal procedures are completed.

4. Khuwaisat Tourist Area Development Project - It is awaiting the final approval of the study to update the fourth structural plan for the State of Kuwait until the completion of the project’s proposal for international consulting offices to prepare integrated studies for the project area.
