Top ex-MEW officials under probe

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 9: The Public AntiCorrup­tion Authority (Nazaha) has announced the referral of former senior officials and others from the Ministry of Electricit­y and Water to the Public Prosecutio­n for “causing serious harm to public money, reports Al-Qabas daily.

The authority said, in a statement, that in continuati­on of its efforts to combat corruption, ward off its risks and effects, and prosecute the suspects in line with clauses in Law No. 2 of 2016 regarding the establishm­ent of the Public Anti-Corruption Authority and its executive regulation­s, it was decided, after investigat­ion and gathering of evidence, to refer former officials and others to the Public Prosecutio­n Office, on charges of: committing grave damage to public funds, which is punishable under Article No. (14) of Law No. 1 of 1993.

“Nazaha” affirmed its intention to continue efforts and procedures to collect evidence and carry out investigat­ions in all serious communicat­ions in receives that fulfill the conditions and at the same time appreciate­d the role of whistleblo­wers in exercising their role in helping the authority to access the necessary informatio­n and data on corruption.

Illegitima­te baby?: The Jahra Public Prosecutor will summon for interrogat­ion an unidentifi­ed Indian domestic worker who reportedly gave birth to stillborn baby inside her employer’s home in Saad Al-Abdullah, reports Al-Anba daily.

According to the security sources the employer said he was unaware that the 39-year-old maid who was pregnant. The case is being handled by the Criminal Investigat­ion Office.

The source indicated the CID men are

waiting for the maid to recover to interrogat­e her. The baby died due to suffocatio­n which may have been caused by the umbilical cord.
