KRCS lauds Gulf Red Crescent Societies efforts in COVID-19 fight
Meeting sets action plan for Committee of Heads of Red Crescent Bodies and Societies in GCC
KUWAIT CITY, Sept 9, (KUNA): Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kuwaiti Red Crescent Society, Dr. Hilal Al-Sayer, praised the efforts of the Gulf National Societies in confronting the corona pandemic and coordinating among them to deliver aid to the afflicted and the affected.
In a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) at the conclusion of the 17th meeting of the heads of the Red Crescent bodies and societies in the Gulf Cooperation
Council countries remotely on Thursday, Al-Sayer called for continuing efforts and information to combat the corona virus in coordination and cooperation with the health authorities in the GCC countries.
He said that the meeting discussed many axes, foremost of which is a review of the efforts of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries to confront the COVID-19 pandemic and the voluntary initiatives undertaken by the Gulf Red
Crescent bodies and societies in this field.
He added that the meeting set an action plan for the Committee of Heads of Red Crescent Bodies and Societies in the GCC States for the period between 2021 and 2024, in addition to strengthening joint coordination in responding to international appeals to provide relief aid to the afflicted and the needy around the world during disasters and crises and in line with the lofty goals of the Gulf Cooperation
Council, in addition to joint coordination in International forums and conferences related to relief and humanitarian work.
He stated that the gathering of the Gulf Red Crescent bodies and societies discussed launching the volunteer work award for the Red Crescent bodies and societies in the GCC countries, the mechanism of work of this award and its criteria, in addition to presenting the general framework for joint activities and programs on the Gulf Red Crescent Day.
He pointed out that the meeting also discussed the memorandum of understanding to be signed between the General Secretariat of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf and the Arab Organization of the Red Crescent and the Red Cross, activating volunteer work mechanisms and joint training courses, in addition to a number of priority issues and common interest.
Earlier in the week, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kuwait Red Crescent Society, Dr. Hilal Al-Sayer, said that the International Day of Charity Work aims to raise awareness and motivate people and non-governmental organizations around the world to help others through volunteering, charitable activities and supporting public services in the areas of medical care, education, housing and child protection.
