Food items students can carry

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 9: The Ministry of Education has announced the list of healthy food items approved by the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition for students to carry during school hours in the next academic year, reports Al-Anba daily.

In a bulletin circulated to schools of various educationa­l levels and religious institutes, Acting Assistant Undersecre­tary for Educationa­l Developmen­t Salah Dabsha explained that the move to regulate what kind of food the students are allowed to bring to schools is in line with the health requiremen­ts set by PAFN and in cooperatio­n with the Ministry of Education.

Due to the current health situation in the country, the schools have been instructed to suspend all canteen activities.

The healthy food items that students are allowed to carry are :

■ Dairy products such as plain milk, flavored milk, buttermilk, plain yogurt, flavored yogurt, etc, and all kinds of juices and fruit nectar. It is forbidden to use glass containers; the containers used must be plastic.

■ Fruits such as seasonal fresh fruits, apples, bananas, gourds, mandarins, fruit salad, etc, and fresh vegetables such as cucumber, small carrots, vegetable salad, etc.

■ Fatayers (stuffed pancake) such as those with low-fat and low-salt white or yellow cheese, labneh, thyme, falafel, a mixture of more than one kind.

■ Sandwiches, nuts and dried fruits (cocktail or one type without salt or flavors), biscuits or wafers (plain or stuffed with cocoa, dates or dried fruits, biscuits with sesame, dates or figs).

A previous article by the daily highlighte­d only the list of food items that are prohibited to be sold in the school canteens or brought by the students, such as energy products like energy drinks, iced tea, caffeinate­d drinks, and soft drinks, full-fat dairy products, popcorn and corn, vine leaves, cotton candy, pizza, flavored water, sports drinks, sweetened water, fruit syrups of all kinds, all kinds of chewing gum, lollipops and puffs.
