MoE to finalize on reducing curricula for first semester
Arab, foreign private schools start distributing school uniforms
KUWAIT CITY, Sept 12: As the new school year (2021/2022) is fast approaching and with teachers in kindergarten, primary and intermediate stages reporting for work after eight days; the Ministry of Education is moving fast to finalize its decision on reducing the curricula for the first semester in line with the plan for the students’ safe return to schools, taking into consideration the reduction of working days and number of students inside a classroom, reports Al-Jarida daily.
Sources told the daily that the competent authorities in the ministry will resolve the issue on the percentage of curricula reduction in the middle of this week. Sources explained the adoption of the plan to reduce the curricula and specify the percentage of reduction will be discussed in the upcoming meetings with the assistant undersecretary for Public Education in preparation for the official announcement soon.
Sources disclosed the technical guidelines for subjects offered in previous years will be polished in line with the reduction of curricula as per the plan on the students’ safe return to schools. Sources said the plan is for students to attend traditional classes 10 days a month, instead of 20 days.
Reduction
Considering the 50 percent reduction in the number of class days, the curricula should be streamlined as well to help teachers explain the lessons thoroughly, sources added.
Sources pointed out that the resumption of traditional classes and written exams, while reducing the number of class days for students, have prompted the concerned authorities in the ministry to look into the possibility of reducing the curricula.
Sources revealed the curricula will be reduced by 30 percent minimum, focusing on the essential subjects.
In addition, sources informed the daily that the six educational districts have started appointments to various leadership posts; including heads of departments and assistant directors in line with the decision on promoting those qualified for these posts.
Meanwhile, Arab and foreign private schools have started distributing school uniforms to the students. These schools have been sending messages to parents regarding the need to visit the schools to pick up the uniforms and pay the necessary fees in preparation for the start of classes on Oct 3.
