Ministry set to vaccinate 5-11 group

-

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 27, (Agencies): Now that Pfizer-BioNtech is close to obtaining a license for using their Covid 19 vaccine for the 5-11 age group based on the strong immune response seen in the results of clinical tests, the Ministry of Health is preparing to vaccinate those under the group soon, reports Al-Rai daily quoting sources.

Sources pointed out this will resolve issues related to the decision on the reopening of schools, while continuing the low epidemiological curve and adherence to the health regulations.

Sources hinted that “vaccination for this age group will begin within a few weeks - as soon as Pfizer-BioNtech obtains a license to use the vaccine for the group from the United States of America and Europe. A lower dose of the vaccine will be given to this age group.”

Sources revealed that as per the statistics released by the Public Authority for Civil Information (PACI) as at the end of last year; the number of those under this age group reached more than 427,000.

Sources added that 10 to 15 percent of the target group might not want to get the vaccine or they have underlying health conditions that may prevent vaccination; so the estimated number of those who will obtain the vaccine may range from 360,000 to 380,000.
