KUWAIT CITY, Sept 28, (KUNA): Millions of digital media posted on different platforms every hour around the globe, publishing enormous quantities of photos, videos and audio clips as well as texts with different messaging.

People in every corner report everyday news, keeping people following digital media informed about events worldwide.

“Digital media are a revolution and huge leap in terms of news editing,” Dr. Zuhair Al-Abbad, head of Kuwait union of journalists and chief editor of Alkuwaityah e-paper, said.

The use of sound effects in digital media is key to attract large numbers of viewers because the content will be rich, Al-Abbad told KUNA in an interview.

He added that newspapers and e-news platforms compete in the use of high-quality digital media to guarantee the largest views possible.

Photos, video and audio clips are major contents in news, noted Al-Abbad, if they were recorded and posted by a bystander or a victim of an accident. “This will have a direct impact on the viewer,” he said.

Al-Abbad, meanwhile, called for banning, through law, the tampering of content of digital media because there were sophisticated soft wards that could “change the content” in a way un-noticed by users.

Acting Director of Mass Communications Department at Kuwait University (KU) Dr. Hussain Murad said digital media were “important and added value,” and could play a major role on influencing viewers.

Murad also affirmed that written news attracts readers with flashy headlines, adding that using digital features help the reader interact more with the text.

Readers receive thousands of news and information every day through smartphones and the digital revolution, which made it difficult to control the credibility of the news.

Moreover, he stressed that modern technology would never affect written news.

For his part, Professor of Sociology in KU, Dr. Ali Al-Zu’bi said that digital media are based on sound, pictures, and their direct impact on the receiver, which gives it a wide social dimension.
