‘Education policy fails to ingrain unity, love for homeland’

- — Compiled by Zaki Taleb

“WHAT happened after the announcement of the results of elections of the Student Union of the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training is shameful and disgusting,” Habib Al-Sanafi wrote for Al-Jarida daily.

“Tribal flags, slogans and chants proudly filled the air professing tribal affiliation, preceded by incitement to vote for the tribe’s component, while the arena was devoid of displaying electoral programs for student lists.

“The inclusion of the tribe, which is an authentic social component, into a student electoral struggle has grave repercussions on the unity and solidity of the community. The union represented the tribes, not an educational student union.

“These students certainly do not realize that the tribe has its role as a social incubator and belonging to a noble lineage, and is not a tool and a means for electoral gains except in backward and reactionary countries, here and there.

“What is happening is a catastrophic failure of the educational policy over the course of 60 years to advance educational institutions, and a continuous inabil- ity to form the mentality of generations capable of distinguishing and comparing loyalty to the homeland and belonging to the tribe.

“There is a deliberate failure on the part of the authority to complete the democracy project and move it to full democracy that requires selecting the best in terms of ideas, methods and choices in the political and social behavior of its citizens, and we succeeded in reaping the bittersweet fruits from the failure to push for social change for the better.

“Some attribute what is happening to the authority’s diligence on the permanence of the weight of the balance in its favor.

“Confronting a disjointed, suspicious opposition with multiple affiliations is more useful and beneficial than confronting a united opposition front directed by loyalty to the homeland and directed by the popular will of all its sects.”

Also:

“Some people believe that when a person assumes a certain position, he must change and fit with the current situation, which some hypocrites around him portray,” columnist Misfer Al-Naees wrote for Al-Rai daily.

“When this happens, at work he does not reveal his weak capabilities and information. When he discovers his position is beyond his ability, he tries hard to cover up his failure by taking some negative decisions that affect the workflow.

“Whoever God grants him with a position or prestige or trade, or is in a place of work to serve people, God has blessed him with goodness, so he must make it easy for people, and not be a stumbling block in their way and harm them with unnecessary requests and orders, make it easy for them as much as possible. It is possible that a day will come when he will realize his bad attitude.

“We have officials who master the art of harming people as if the ministry or institution belongs to their ancestors, so they oppress and destroy people and make their lives miserable, full of worries and injustice meaning they do not care what happens next.

“This is a message for every unjust and corrupt official. The world is short and there is a reward and punishment. Do not think that your strength in your position will benefit you. Your job security is short and you are aware of that. So you correct your mistakes. So be careful of your reputation, for it is what lasts, as for positions, they come and go.”

“During 2020, in many political dialogues and discussions that take place in the Clubhouse rooms, which is one of the modern social media frequented by a large group of young people and intellectuals, I noticed the hateful tribal racism between the sons of some tribes, fueled by some prejudiced and weakminded people,” Dr. Muhammad Al-Duwaihees wrote for Al-Shahed daily.

“Did some young people find what they wanted in the Clubhouse rooms to revive the same and hateful tribal fire?!! Is it to ‘create’ the ‘replica’ constitution?! If the answer is yes?! The government and the people have failed miserably in creating a new generation that believes in the 1962 constitution, the law, and the state of institutions and rule of law.

“Racism in all its forms and types is the shortest way to impede development efforts and the most deadly in national cohesion and increase the division among the people of the one country and the interest of the citizens.”

“Perhaps, the most important characteristic of the current stage of the country’s life and in light of the formation of the new government, which His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled is addressing, is that it ripples with many local events and those surrounding our Arab region and the world,” columnist Dr Essa Al-Omairi wrote for Al-Anba daily.

“On the level of local events, the new government is required to continue the previous approach, on top of which are combating corruption, transforming the corrupt and those who are wreaking havoc in the country, and referring

them to the prosecution and the highest judicial authorities based on what is discovered almost daily regarding corruption cases, given the gravity of corruption in any society, as it is capable of destroying the society completely.

“Therefore, this request is very important and there are many other issues such as housing — a perennial issue considering a Kuwaiti waits for many years until he gets a house and it does not reach him until he is near retirement.

“Here, an expert must find a solution to the housing issue. This is in addition to the issue of development, which almost stopped, with the exception of traffic and public works projects needed at this stage.

“As for the events surrounding our Arab region, we find the tense situation between Iran and the Western countries on the path of the nuclear agreement, which must be established as soon as possible, before Iran acquires nuclear weapons!”

“Deterioration continues in all aspects of life in the State, while the government is unaware of matters because of its utter negligence in managing the country. It is unaware of the level of deterioration that we have reached. It behaves on its media as if things are going well and there is no need to change its destructive approach,” columnist Hamed Al-Saif wrote for Annahar daily.

“Our country is rich but its human resources and energies that are needed in achieving goals remain untapped due to the poor formation of successive governments, and those governments’ persistence in continuing their unproductive work.

“Despite this, the government does not want to understand the extent of its failure and bad approach, as it always insists on continuing its way without listening to the voices of reason until it led us to the deterioration of our financial and economic conditions, education, health, culture and all the services that the country and the citizen need.

“Kuwait has been suffering from unresolved problems for a long time, such as issues related to development, housing, demographics, and replacement of expatriate workers with nationals. This is in addition to the absence of transparent work in government agencies, application of the law and justice for all.

“These are many examples of the failure of successive governments and their continuation despite the seriousness of the financial, economic, environmental, educational, health and service situations, as well as the failure to seriously think about finding alternatives to save the country from the ongoing tragedies.”
