Residents protest setting up of comm complex in area

-

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 30: The residents of Adailiya area reiterated their refusal concerning the establishment of a commercial complex as announced by the Kuwait Football Association, after a bid was submitted and won by a company, reports Al-Qabas daily.

They stressed that this project will turn the quiet residential area into a hub of hustle and bustle.

The residents said, “This complex, according to the announced specifications, will be built on an area of 10,000 square meters. It will include dozens of shops, a hotel and a health club. Who would turn this area from a residential area of calm and tranquility into a commercial area bustling with all sorts of inconvenience?”

They expressed their rejection of this decision because of its negative effects on the Adailiya area as well as the rest of the model areas where this phenomenon of commercial exploitation of sports facilities or other government facilities will inevitably be repeated.

The people of Adailiya area demanded the transfer of the Kuwait Football Association to a sports area such as Jaber Al-Ahmad City or the area around Jaber Stadium, especially since Adailiya has two big sports institutions.

They stressed that the current facilities in the area are considered a lot for such a small area, adding that the headquarters of the association should be used as a youth center, so that the youth of the area can benefit both socially and in the field of sports, similar to the youth centers in other areas.

The residents also highlighted the need to allocate an alternative commercial site for the association in a commercial area so that it can achieve a better investment for it, and to let Adailiya remain as the association’s headquarters.

Salah Al-Seif, one of the organizers of the campaign in Adailiya area said, “Adailiya is one of the typical residential areas in the Capital Governorate.

Despite the inconvenience and harassment caused by sporting events, the causes of which are known to everyone, there has not been any complaint from its people. However, the association’s use of the area to establish a commercial complex will have significant negative consequences on the people.
