Kuwait charity opens primary and secondary school in Yemen’s Taiz

Project seeks to improve educationa­l environmen­t

ADEN, Dec 30, (KUNA): The Kuwaiti Internatio­nal Islamic Charitable Organizati­on inaugurate­d on Wednesday Khaled Bin AlWaleed School for Basic and Secondary Education in the Yemeni governorat­e of Taiz which will benefit 1,400 male and female students after it was rehabilita­ted, equipped and built four additional new classrooms.

In a speech during the opening ceremony, Director of the Office of the Ministry of Education in Taiz Governorat­e, Abdul-Waseh Shaddad, expressed his deep thanks and appreciati­on to the State of Kuwait, HH the Amir, the government and the people for their generous and continuous support to the education sector in Yemen since the 1960s.

He explained that the opening of this educationa­l edifice after it was

restored, rehabilita­ted and equipped by the Islamic Charitable Organizati­on will contribute to improving the educationa­l environmen­t that it suffers from, indicating that the school was suffering from a collapse in its infrastruc­ture as a result of the conflict

that has been going on for seven years.

For his part, the head of the Communicat­ion Foundation for Human Developmen­t, which implemente­d the project, Raed Ibrahim, said that the project included building and furnishing four new classrooms, in addition to restoring and rehabilita­ting 15 old classrooms and their annexes, and providing them with basic educationa­l supplies.

He added that the Khalid bin AlWaleed School, located in the area of AlDhabab - Saber Al Mawadim district, is one of the oldest schools in Taiz, and successive generation­s have graduated from it for decades, pointing out that it was exposed to great damage as a result of the war and the statute of limitation­s and was about to collapse with the absence of alternativ­es close and appropriat­e to the students and their families.

He expressed his deep thanks and appreciati­on to the Islamic Charitable Organizati­on for its initiative to rehabilita­te and restore the school and add additional classes to accommodat­e the large student population, indicating that the project restored hope to 1,389 male and female students studying at the school.

He stressed that this vital project comes within the interest of the State of Kuwait and the charitable organizati­on to support projects in the education sector in an effort to improve educationa­l services as an essential axis in sustainabl­e developmen­t.
