Kuwait charity opens primary and secondary school in Yemen’s Taiz
Project seeks to improve educational environment
ADEN, Dec 30, (KUNA): The Kuwaiti International Islamic Charitable Organization inaugurated on Wednesday Khaled Bin AlWaleed School for Basic and Secondary Education in the Yemeni governorate of Taiz which will benefit 1,400 male and female students after it was rehabilitated, equipped and built four additional new classrooms.
In a speech during the opening ceremony, Director of the Office of the Ministry of Education in Taiz Governorate, Abdul-Waseh Shaddad, expressed his deep thanks and appreciation to the State of Kuwait, HH the Amir, the government and the people for their generous and continuous support to the education sector in Yemen since the 1960s.
He explained that the opening of this educational edifice after it was
restored, rehabilitated and equipped by the Islamic Charitable Organization will contribute to improving the educational environment that it suffers from, indicating that the school was suffering from a collapse in its infrastructure as a result of the conflict
that has been going on for seven years.
For his part, the head of the Communication Foundation for Human Development, which implemented the project, Raed Ibrahim, said that the project included building and furnishing four new classrooms, in addition to restoring and rehabilitating 15 old classrooms and their annexes, and providing them with basic educational supplies.
He added that the Khalid bin AlWaleed School, located in the area of AlDhabab - Saber Al Mawadim district, is one of the oldest schools in Taiz, and successive generations have graduated from it for decades, pointing out that it was exposed to great damage as a result of the war and the statute of limitations and was about to collapse with the absence of alternatives close and appropriate to the students and their families.
He expressed his deep thanks and appreciation to the Islamic Charitable Organization for its initiative to rehabilitate and restore the school and add additional classes to accommodate the large student population, indicating that the project restored hope to 1,389 male and female students studying at the school.
He stressed that this vital project comes within the interest of the State of Kuwait and the charitable organization to support projects in the education sector in an effort to improve educational services as an essential axis in sustainable development.
