‘Good Country Index’ 2021 ranks Kuwait fourth among GCC peers

KUWAIT CITY, April 20: Kuwait is ranked fourth in the Gulf and 123 globally out of 169 countries on the ‘Good Country Index’ for the year 2021 issued by the global network ‘Diplomatic Courier’, reports Al-Rai daily.

The index ranks the countries according to a number of classifications, such as their efforts in the field of environmental protection, and their support for technology.

According to the network, the index does not rank countries on the basis of their economic, social or cultural performance (as in the indicators of global prosperity and soft power), but rather on the basis of each country’s efforts in the field of improving the world outside its borders and people of other countries.

Security

As for the sub-indicators, Kuwait ranked 80th in the world as a contributor to international peace and security, 128th in science and technology, 101st in culture, 115th in the global system, 155th in the planet and climate, 153th in prosperity and equality, and 19th in health and well-being, which is the best rank that Kuwait achieves on the Good Country Index.

According to the index, what is meant by prosperity and equality is open trade, the presence of UN volunteers abroad, in addition to combating money laundering, foreign direct investment (FDI) flows and development assistance.

As for the health and well-being subindicator, it means food aid, pharmaceutical exports, voluntary surplus donations to the World Health Organization, donations of humanitarian aid, and compliance with international health rules.

In the Gulf, the UAE came first and 65th globally in the Good Country Index, followed by Qatar at 109th, then Saudi Arabia at 114th, Kuwait in fourth and 123rd globally, then Oman in fifth and 131st globally, and finally Bahrain at 145th in the world.

As for the best country in the world according to the index is Sweden followed by Denmark, then Germany, the Netherlands, Finland, Canada, Belgium, Ireland, France, and Austria tenth.
