Tournament cancellation hailed
KUWAIT CITY, April 27: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry ordered the halting of the Padel Championship, which was supposed to be held Wednesday in Shuwaikh, due to the organizers’ violation of the Commercial Companies Law, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting sources from the ministry.
Sources disclosed the violation of organizers of the event is engaging in a commercial activity without a license, indicating the organizers set up unlicensed food stalls.
In a related development, MP Fayez Al-Jumhur thanked the ministry for stopping the tournament. He posted on Twitter: “A grateful response to the ministry’s decision to stop the tournament. This is in addition to the call for our sons and daughters to not dress modestly and mingle with the opposite gender. The organizers violated laws on licensing and advertising.”
Sources confirmed that everyone is allowed to hold sports tournaments, but if such events include commercial activities like selling goods to the public, approval must be obtained from the ministry for the latter to play its role in protecting the consumer protection.
Meanwhile, the competent authorities at the Ministry of Education are keen on obtaining approval from the Ministry of Finance to transfer KD80 million to the account of the Public Institution for Social Security (PIFSS), reports Al-Jarida daily quoting a reliable source.
According to the source, the abovementioned amount is included in the Education Ministry’s budget; but it is not available as cash in its account. The source said the Ministry of Education has asked its finance counterpart to speed up the provision of the needed cash to transfer the contributions of employees from December 2021
to April 2022.
He added PIFSS has repeatedly asked the Ministry of Education to expedite the transfer of the employees’ contributions, but the latter cannot do so due to lack of liquidity.
In the meantime, the State Audit Bureau (SAB) has approved the three-month extension of the contract for guarding work in Jahra Educational District schools and buildings, reports Al-Anba daily.
The daily obtained a copy of the letter that SAB sent to Ministry of Education Undersecretary Dr Ali Al-Yacoub, in which the bureau affirmed that it has no objection to extending the contract for three months starting from April at a total cost of KD191,313.
