Diabetes unit at Amiri Hospital set to launch 9th conference activities
KUWAIT CITY, May 9, (KUNA): The activities of the ninth conference of the diabetes unit at Al-Amiri Hospital will be launched on the 20th of this month, with Gulf participation.
Head of the unit, consultant of internal diseases and diabetes, and head of the conference, Dr. Abdel-Nabi Al-Attar, told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) today, Monday, that the conference includes scientific lectures on the latest developments in treatment, diagnosis and prevention of diabetes, the latest methods of treatment and follow-up of patients.
Al-Attar added that the twoday lecture aims at raising the scientific level of doctors in Kuwait by discussing the latest specialized studies in the treatment of this disease and its complications and will be delivered by prominent doctors and researchers from Kuwait and the Gulf countries, indicating that the conference targets specialists, family doctors and general practitioners, in addition to those interested in all specialties.
He pointed to the seriousness of diabetes, which has become a very prevalent disease in the world, especially in Kuwait, explaining that the latest federal statistics of the global associations indicate an increase in the disease rate by more than 20 percent, according to the latest statistics of the IDF.
“This is a matter of concern and calls for concerted efforts to besiege the disease spread and reduce its consequences,” added Al-Attar.
He said that diabetes is one of the most important causes of heart attacks and blockage of coronary arteries, as well as the chance of a diabetic patient experiencing a stroke more than four times that of a non-diabetic patient, stressing the importance of spreading awareness of the seriousness of the disease and early detection of it to avoid and reduce its complications.
He pointed out that the Kuwait Institute for Medical Specialties will award participants in the conference 12 points in the Continuing Medical Education ladder.
