Japan expands financial sanctions on Russia
The Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday that Japan decided to expand its sanctions on Russia over its invasion of Ukraine.
In a press release the ministry noted that the new measures was approved at a Cabinet meeting, adding that they also freezed the assets of 141 Russian individuals, including Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
The fresh sanctions also include export bans to 71 military entities, including Russian shipbuilding and scientific research firms, In addition, Tokyo will also ban Russia-bound exports of high-tech products, such as quantum computers and 3-D printers.
The decision came after leaders of the Group of Seven (G-7) industrialized nations agreed Monday (Japanese time) to intensify economic pressure on Russia, and Japan’s announcement of a phaseout of all Russian crude oil imports in principle. (KUNA)
