TGS presents Amal Al Sayer

-

KUWAIT CITY, May 11: Of the many movers and shakers in Kuwait, Amal Al Sayer is one who has left a lasting imprint on the lives of many differently-abled individuals in Kuwait. Having learned from her own journey, she decided to make a difference.

In 2007, she founded Kuwait Association for Learning Differences (KALD), a social welfare association that helps specially-abled individuals especially children in private schools in Kuwait, who have learning differences and/or ADHD. KALD performs this very important mission through awareness programs, training courses, and educational activities.

What strikes one most about Amal Al Sayer is her courage and empathy. While fighting for her son’s right to get an education that accommodated his needs, she not only successfully confronted the stigmas associated with mental health and children with special needs in Kuwait, she empowered herself with knowledge and training and took on the fight for other individuals whose voice and struggles would have been otherwise lost.

KALD is a pioneer in the field of special education and over the years it has made a difference in the lives of many.

This Thursday on The Guest Show (TGS), Amal Al Sayer speaks to Chaitali B. Roy about KALD, her personal journey of learning and growing with her son, about stigmas associated with mental health and learning difficulties, and about the challenges and highlights of her journey.
