Kuwait deports 286 Filipino ‘violators’ of residency law
KUWAIT CITY, Aug 4: The Philippine government announced that a batch of 286 Filipino violators of the residence law, who had escaped from their sponsors arrived in Manila, after the Kuwaiti authorities deported them within the framework of a humanitarian amnesty program agreed upon between the two countries, reports Al-Rai daily.
The CNN-Philippines reported that the flight that carried the deportees landed at Ninoy Aquino International Airport at seven o’clock Tuesday evening. The Philippine Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that this was the eighth deportation operation – since the beginning of this year – coordinated by Undersecretary for expatriates affairs Eduardo Jose de Vega.
According to an official statement issued by the Ministry of Migrant Employment, “most of the deportees are workers who have been on the run from their sponsors for a long time and were arrested by the Kuwaiti authorities during the past month.”
The statement indicated 245 of those Filipinos were detained at the deportation prison, and among the other deportees, there were 3 pregnant women, 3 sick people and 5 mothers with their children, in addition to various other humanitarian cases.
Shops closed:
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has closed two shops in Farwaniya for displaying and selling counterfeit goods, reports Al-Jarida daily.
During an inspection campaign the inspectors are said to have seized a big quantity of imitation shoes, bags and accessories bearing counterfeit trademarks of the most famous international brands.
The Ministry of Commerce stated on its official Twitter account that the emergency team has initiated legal procedures against the violators.
