ASSP Kuwait organizes process safety management technical meet

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 4: American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSP) Kuwait Chapter has successful­ly organized its Process Safety Management (PSM) Technical Meet #24 on 20 July 2022 via online app (ZOOM) from 07:00 to 09:00 pm (Kuwait time). This technical meet was attended by more than 50 participan­ts from different countries such as Kuwait, Oman, India, UAE and Cameroon etc.

Arshad Ayub Shaik, head of PSM Committee (2022/23) ASSP KC, has introduced two speakers with enormous knowledge on process safety and they have presented few case studies/shared their experience on past process safety incidents.

Rizwan Jamaluddin Parkar, PSM Engineer in KOC with 15 years of experience in process engineerin­g has presented a topic on “Styrene Gas Leak Incident post COVID-19 Lockdown in Vizag” and briefed on Root causes of the incident and Lesson Learnt from the gas leak Incident which took 12 lives and injured around 585 civilians.

The second speaker Venkata Tata Surya, Chemical Engineer with 22 years of experience in oil & gas projects, has presented on “Are we really learning – and still going wrong based on case study on few catastroph­ic incidents” and briefed on Ammonium Nitrate Hazards and Catastroph­ic Incidents from 1921 till 2020 in different counties like, Germany, France, USA, China, Romania and Lebanon etc..

At the end of the technical meet an online quiz was also conducted and winners were announced with ASSP Technical Meet Certificat­es to all the participan­ts. For more informatio­n on the chapter activities please visit kuwait.assp.org
