Ex-MPs condemn Israeli attack on Gaza; global action sought
KUWAIT CITY, Aug 6: A number of former MPs have denounced the recent Israeli attack on Gaza, Palestine.
Mohammad Al-Hewaila stressed the need for the international community and Arab and Islamic countries to adopt a solid position to condemn the Israeli attack.
Ahmed Al-Hamad called for a unified position among Arabs and Muslims,
emphasizing the importance of foiling attempts to normalize relations with Israel.
Jamaan Al-Harbash pointed out that supporting Palestinians is the responsibility of every Muslim.
Ahmad Mutei Al-Azmi said the civilian Palestinians are the targets of Israeli criminal forces, yet the entire world is just watching silently.
Ali Al-Daqbasi asserted it is painful to see the innocent civilian Palestinians being exposed to Israeli missiles and air fighters, but it is more painful to witness the whole world’s silence over such atrocities, especially the Arab League and Organization of Islamic Conference; as well as the continuous negotiations of some parties with Israel.
Meanwhile, only one of the 2020 Parliament members announced that he will contest the next legislative elections – Soud Bu Sleeb; while two former MPs – Al-Humaidi Al- Subaie and Walid AlJeri – have no intention to stand for the election.
In another development, there has been an argument over the need for voters to present their civil identification and nationality cards for verification of their identity during elections. Kuwait University Professor Ibrahim AlHomoud pointed out that using the address in the civil identification card as basis for identifying the voting district is a violation of the Constitution.
On the other hand, Law Professor at Kuwait University Muhammad AlMuqatei affirmed a voter’s electoral district is based on the address in his civil identification card and record of the Public Authority for Civil Information (PACI). He added this necessitates the issuance of a decree on urgent matters.
