‘Grant amnesty to those in exile’

Ex-MP, Municipali­ty workers under probe

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 8, (Agencies): The previous National Assembly’s term lasted for 596 days -- from Dec 15, 2020 to Aug 2, 2022; during which the country witnessed the resignatio­n of three government­s.

The 16th parliament­ary term comes second after the 15th in terms of the number of queries forwarded to ministers – a total of 4,215 queries or an average of nine per day. It held 31 sessions – inaugural, ordinary, special and final; ratified nine laws, two of which were returned to the Assembly for further discussion; approved 34 budgets; submitted 848 bills and 1,322 proposals; filed 17 grilling motions; submitted 15 proposals for discussing urgent issues and two requests for lifting parliament­ary immunity; approved 34 recommenda­tions, 105 incoming letters and eight assignment­s for the State Audit Bureau (SAB); formed 22 parliament­ary committees in its first year – 11 permanent and 11 temporary, and 21 parliament­ary committees in its second year – 11 permanent and 10 temporary.

In another developmen­t, former MP Askar Al-Enezi and four employees at Kuwait Municipali­ty and Ministry of Public Works were referred to the Public Prosecutio­n for stealing sand from the desert.

Meanwhile, former MP Abdullah Fehad called for the issuance of a decree on granting general amnesty to citizens who are still in exile. He pointed out this could be a suitable beginning for the pro-reform era of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

Furthermor­e, former MPs Bader Al-Mullah and Abdullah Al-Mudaf highly appreciate­d the decision of His Highness the Prime Minister to cancel the decision of Minister of Public Works, Electricit­y, Water and Renewable Energy Ali Al-Mousa to appoint Assistant Undersecre­tary for Vegetable Resources at the Public Authority for Agricultur­e Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAAFR) Dalal Rajab as chairperso­n of PAAAFR.

Previously, a parliament­ary committee questioned Rajab on suspicion of manipulati­ng the distributi­on of agricultur­al plots.

The two former MPs pointed out that the decision of His Highness the Prime Minister is one of the steps needed to protect public funds and combat corruption.

Hiring domestics: Minister of Commerce and Industry and Minister of Social Affairs and Community Developmen­t Fahd Al-Shariaan has issued a decision to determine the maximum price for the recruitmen­t of domestic workers, not including airfare, reports Al-Rai daily.

The decision states that without prejudice to the provisions of Law No. 69 of 2015, the maximum price for the recruitmen­t of domestic workers from the Philippine­s is 850 dinars, and from India, Sri Lanka and Nepal 700 dinars, and from African countries 500. As for the ‘special cases’ domestics who are not registered with the domestic workers recruiting agencies the price is 350 dinars not inclusive of airfare.
