Kuwait commends IOM role

GENEVA, Oct 13, (KUNA): Kuwait’s permanent envoy to the United Nations Ambassador Nasser Al-Hayen commended the humanitari­an role of Internatio­nal Organizati­on for Migration (IOM) in caring for victims of armed conflicts and natural disasters.

This came in Al-Hayen’s statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) following his meeting with IOM chief, Antonio Vitorino, at its headquarte­rs in Geneva.

The two discussed challenges facing humanitari­an situations around the world. Vitorino stated that the rapid succession of hardships including coronaviru­s pandemic, the food security issue and energy crisis is causing an accumulati­on of crises.

Ambassador Al-Hayen stressed to the UN official Kuwait’s support to organizati­on in providing care to victims, namely Arab nations including Syria and Yemen, and other nations suffering from effect of climate change including, Horn of Africa and Pakistan.

Vitorino conveyed the thanks and gratitude of the organizati­on to Kuwait, calling it a main partner in facing regional and internatio­nal crises, Al-Hayen added.

He also affirmed role of humanitari­an organizati­ons’ and called on internatio­nal community to provide support enabling organizati­on to fulfill its role.

Meanwhile, Director of the Office of the Yemeni Presidency Dr. Yahya AlShuaibi praised Wednesday Kuwait’s support for Yemen and Yemenis.

The Yemeni News Agency (Saba) stated that this came during Al-Shuaibi’s visit to the Kuwait-financed medical oxygen factory which was establishe­d by the Kuwait Relief Society.

The factory inaugurate­d in September 2021 produces 300 oxygen cylinders a day.

Al-Shuaib stressed the importance of the plant in enhancing readiness of Yemeni health facilities.
