MP faults answers on SMEs
KUWAIT CITY, Nov 23: The parliamentary Health, Social and Labor Affairs Committee on Wednesday discussed ways to develop cooperative societies and Kuwaitization policy.
Committee Chairman MP Hani Shams confirmed the attendance of Minister of Social Affairs and Community Development and Minister of State for Women and Children Mai Jassem Muhammad Al-Baghli and senior officials at the Ministry of Social Affairs.
He disclosed that they deliberated on ways to improve services provided by cooperative societies; including planting more trees in coordination with the Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAAFR).
He added they also discussed the proposal to increase the minimum social aid granted to Kuwaiti housewives and the elderly, affirming the increment will be done soon.
Also, Chairman of the committee tasked to discuss the development of the National Fund for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) MP Abdulwahab Al-Essa said the representatives of the fund and Finance Ministry attended the meeting. He said the meeting did not yield the desired results, because the responses to the committee’s questions were unclear. He asked the representatives of the fund about their vision on improving support for young owners of SMEs, but the reply was unsatisfactory.
He added the response of the Ministry of Finance was not better than that of the fund’s representatives. He then gave the fund and ministry a grace period of one month to provide the committee with their clear vision on the development of the fund, clarifying the committee is willing to cooperate provided the two institutions meet this deadline.
