‘Battling scourge of drugs is responsibility of all citizens’
Sheikh Talal honors Kuwaitis who took part in arrest
KUWAIT CITY, Nov 23, (KUNA): First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Talal Khaled Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah affirmed on Tuesday, that confronting the scourge of drugs is everyone’s responsibility, which calls for integration and concerted efforts to combat this menace that afflicts our society.
This came according to a press release by the General Department of Security Relations and Media, during the honoring of Sheikh Talal Al-Khalid, two citizens who participated in the arrest of an Asian resident who was promoting narcotic substances in a residential area.
The Minister of Interior expressed his thanks to the citizens Youssef Al-Enezi and Badr Al-Enezi for their vigilance and sense of responsibility towards this danger that threatens our society, pointing out that the citizens have proven that every citizen is a sentinel and that they are partners with their brothers, the securitymen, in combating the scourge of drugs and preserving the youth of the country.
He stressed, “We will not allow harm to our children and youth and rob their future,” noting that security efforts are continuing to combat all types of smuggling operations and to arrest anyone who brings and traffics in narcotic substances of all kinds, and to protect and preserve society from these dangerous substances.
Sirens tested: General Directorate of Civil Defense checked on the efficiency of warning sirens in the northern and southern border areas of the country specifically at the Salmi border crossing, the Nuwaiseeb border crossing, Al-Wafra farms, Nuwaiseeb chalets, Al-Khairan Park, the Subbiya power station, the Subbiya coast guard area, the Abdali border crossing, the Abdali farms power plant, and the Al-Qashaniya Police Station, reports Al-Jarida daily.
The Public Relations and Security Media Department of the Ministry of Interior stated that 3 tones were sounded, the first intermittent, the second wavy, and the third continuous, and each tone was followed by its introductory message in both Arabic and English, following which a report was issued on the efficiency of the sirens.
This operation comes within the efforts of the Ministry of Interior to determine the safety of the operation of these sirens, and the extent of their need for maintenance, repair and training operations on the three types of tones insisting that everyone must abide by the sirens ‘protocol’.
No hike in fees: The General Administration of Customs, in response to what was recently published, said the administration has not taken any decision regarding raising the prices of customs duties, reports Al-Jarida daily.
Meanwhile, the administration said its full readiness to respond to any inquiries or questions on any subject.
Disburse Bedoun salaries: Minister of Defense Sheikh Abdullah Al-Ali issued a directive on the disbursement of all unpaid salaries to Bedoun military personnel who hold expired security cards, reports Al-Anba daily quoting a reliable source.
According to the source, the minister took this decision in coordination with officials at the Central System for Remedying the Status of Illegal Residents (CSRSIR); particularly in reviewing the conditions of these Bedouns. He added the minister considered the living conditions of these Bedouns in the issuance of such a decision.
Marriage statistics: The latest statistics on the marriage of Kuwaitis show that the number of citizens who got married from Jan 1 to Nov 13 totaled 8,594 -- 85.5 percent or 7,332 married their compatriot, reports Al-Rai daily.
Meanwhile, 471 Kuwaiti men got married to Saudi women within the same period, 113 married Iraqi women, 63 married Syrian women, 43 married Egyptian women, 33 married Lebanese women, 18 married Yemeni women, 16 married Bahraini women, eight married Omani women, three married Somali women, two married Qatari women and one married an Emirati woman.
