Need to confront drug smugglers, promoters with full force: official
KUWAIT CITY, Nov 26, (KUNA): Director General of the General Department of Relations and Security Media at the Ministry of Interior, Major General Tawheed Al-Kandari stressed on Thursday the importance of concerted efforts to confront the scourge of drugs, prevent their entry into the country and immunize society from them.
Major General Al-Kandari said in a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on the sidelines of his inauguration of the awareness exhibition on drug control, the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Talal Khaled Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah stressed the need to confront drug smugglers and promoters with all force and firmness.
Confront
He said that the exhibition, which was held in Souk Sharq, includes many activities to confront the danger of this devastating scourge, and focuses on spreading awareness and ways to prevent slipping into the well of drugs.
He stressed the great role of the family in educating its children about the danger of drugs, stressing that the exhibition coincides with the national campaign to combat drugs adopted by the Council of Ministers and in implementation of its decisions and aspirations to combat it.
He indicated that the security institution has developed a strategy for confrontation based on the security aspect, which focuses on reducing supply by confronting traffickers and smugglers, seizing them and referring them to the judiciary, adding that the ministry has achieved great successes in its war against drug dealers during the previous years and is working on the awareness and educational aspect to reduce the demand for drugs and psychotropic substances targeting youth and community security.
For his part, Director General of the General Department of Criminal Evidence Major General Eid Al-Owaihan said in a similar statement to KUNA that the department is examining the samples sent from various government agencies to see if they contain any narcotics, psychotropic substances or poisons with the latest scientific equipment at the hands of specialists and holders of scientific degrees.
Narcotic
Al-Owaihan stated that in the event that new materials are received and it is proven that they are narcotic or psychotropic substances, a letter of recommendation is made to include this substance in the tables according to its classification, in coordination with the joint committee to coordinate work in implementing laws related to narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances to meet and work on their inclusion.
The General Directorate for Drug Control, the Juvenile Protection Department, the Addiction Treatment Center, the General Directorate of Criminal Evidence and the General Directorate of Traffic participate in this exhibition.
The exhibition also aims to enhance communication with the public and urge parents to report their children who are addicts or abusers so that they can be effectively treated, cared for and rehabilitated without the incident being considered a criminal precedent.
