Kuwait University celebrates 56th Anniversary
KUWAIT CITY, Nov 26, (KUNA): Kuwait University will be celebrating its 56th inauguration anniversary, as it is Kuwait’s first public research university, which was established during the reign of the late Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah.
The issuance of Law No. 29 of 1966 regarding the organization of higher education marked the inauguration of Kuwait University with establishing the College of Science, Arts and Education and the College of Girls, having at that time 418 male and female students, and 31 faculty members.
On this occasion, KU said in a press release, Saturday, that it witnessed an expansion of establishing more colleges, reaching 16 scientific and humanities colleges, with nearly 38,000 students, 1690 academic staff members and 594 supporting academic staff and language professors.
The university emphasized keenness to provide distinguished education and contributing to the development of knowledge, qualifying human resources to achieve development goals, and keeping pace with the modern era through higher education.
The establishment and opening of the university campus in Sabah Al-Salem University City project in Al-Shedadiyah contributed to strengthening Kuwait University as a beacon for society, indicated the statement.
KU stated that Sabah Al-Salem University City is about 6 million square meters and was designed to accommodate more than 40,000 male and female students.
The university city includes three projects supporting the educational process, the first of which is the administrative buildings, the second is the supporting academic buildings, and the third is for students’ different activities, providing sports and entertainment services such as sports stadium, tennis dome, centers for sports activities.
KCCI’s workshop focuses on SDGs
KUWAIT CITY, Nov 26: The Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) organized a workshop on sustainable development goals, in cooperation with the Supreme Council for Planning and Development, with the participation of government institutions and agencies, in addition to representatives of the private sector, as part of the activities of the Sustainable Development Week, reports Al-Qabas daily.
The Assistant Director General of the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Imad Al-Zaid, said the Chamber’s organization of the workshop on sustainable development goals comes within the framework of Kuwait’s preparation for its second voluntary report, VNR2, appreciating the initiative of the Supreme Council for Planning and Development to involve the private sector in this report.
He stressed the Chamber will spare no effort in educating the private sector, and urging it to contribute to achieving the goals of sustainable development, expressing optimism in presenting the general picture of the desired goals, which are hoped to be achieved in the near future.
The Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Planning and Development, Dr. Khaled Mahdi, the Chamber’s cooperation to achieve the goals of sustainable development, pointing to its positive role and its relentless pursuit to translate the desired goals, through its active presence in the Permanent National Committee for Sustainable Development.
Director of the National Observatory for Sustainable Development, Iqbal Al-Tolayhi, praised the role of the Chamber in spreading awareness through the workshop and its role in defining the goals of sustainable development, explaining that the Supreme Council for Planning invited all state agencies, who have reports in the field of sustainable development, to submit them to the National Committee to implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals, stressing that the aim of the report is not just presentation, but rather an illustration of Kuwait’s true image and the positives and obstacles it faces.
