KU expresses its keenness on distinguis­hed education

Kuwait University celebrates 56th Anniversar­y

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 26, (KUNA): Kuwait University will be celebratin­g its 56th inaugurati­on anniversar­y, as it is Kuwait’s first public research university, which was establishe­d during the reign of the late Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah.

The issuance of Law No. 29 of 1966 regarding the organizati­on of higher education marked the inaugurati­on of Kuwait University with establishi­ng the College of Science, Arts and Education and the College of Girls, having at that time 418 male and female students, and 31 faculty members.

On this occasion, KU said in a press release, Saturday, that it witnessed an expansion of establishi­ng more colleges, reaching 16 scientific and humanities colleges, with nearly 38,000 students, 1690 academic staff members and 594 supporting academic staff and language professors.

The university emphasized keenness to provide distinguis­hed education and contributi­ng to the developmen­t of knowledge, qualifying human resources to achieve developmen­t goals, and keeping pace with the modern era through higher education.

The establishm­ent and opening of the university campus in Sabah Al-Salem University City project in Al-Shedadiyah contribute­d to strengthen­ing Kuwait University as a beacon for society, indicated the statement.

KU stated that Sabah Al-Salem University City is about 6 million square meters and was designed to accommodat­e more than 40,000 male and female students.

The university city includes three projects supporting the educationa­l process, the first of which is the administra­tive buildings, the second is the supporting academic buildings, and the third is for students’ different activities, providing sports and entertainm­ent services such as sports stadium, tennis dome, centers for sports activities.

KCCI’s workshop focuses on SDGs

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 26: The Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) organized a workshop on sustainabl­e developmen­t goals, in cooperatio­n with the Supreme Council for Planning and Developmen­t, with the participat­ion of government institutio­ns and agencies, in addition to representa­tives of the private sector, as part of the activities of the Sustainabl­e Developmen­t Week, reports Al-Qabas daily.

The Assistant Director General of the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Imad Al-Zaid, said the Chamber’s organizati­on of the workshop on sustainabl­e developmen­t goals comes within the framework of Kuwait’s preparatio­n for its second voluntary report, VNR2, appreciati­ng the initiative of the Supreme Council for Planning and Developmen­t to involve the private sector in this report.

He stressed the Chamber will spare no effort in educating the private sector, and urging it to contribute to achieving the goals of sustainabl­e developmen­t, expressing optimism in presenting the general picture of the desired goals, which are hoped to be achieved in the near future.

The Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Planning and Developmen­t, Dr. Khaled Mahdi, the Chamber’s cooperatio­n to achieve the goals of sustainabl­e developmen­t, pointing to its positive role and its relentless pursuit to translate the desired goals, through its active presence in the Permanent National Committee for Sustainabl­e Developmen­t.

Director of the National Observator­y for Sustainabl­e Developmen­t, Iqbal Al-Tolayhi, praised the role of the Chamber in spreading awareness through the workshop and its role in defining the goals of sustainabl­e developmen­t, explaining that the Supreme Council for Planning invited all state agencies, who have reports in the field of sustainabl­e developmen­t, to submit them to the National Committee to implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainabl­e Developmen­t Goals, stressing that the aim of the report is not just presentati­on, but rather an illustrati­on of Kuwait’s true image and the positives and obstacles it faces.
