MP seeks results of blast probe at power station with 4 injuries

Fresh graduates to get jobs at Assembly

KUWAIT CITY, March 12: Deputy Prime Minister of Bahrain Sheikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al-Khalifa inaugurate­d the forum entitled, “Peaceful Coexistenc­e and Comprehens­ive Societies,” which is part of the 146th Assembly of the Internatio­nal Parliament Union (IPU) in Manama, Bahrain from Saturday to Wednesday.

Sheikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al-Khalifa opened the forum on behalf of Bahraini King His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Essa Al-Khalifa.

MP Jenan Bu Shehri represente­d Kuwait in the meetings of the permanent Committee for Internatio­nal Security at the IPU, while MP Khalid Al-Tamar is the representa­tive of the country in the meetings of the permanent Committee for Sustainabl­e Developmen­t and Commerce.

According to MP Hamad Al-Obaid, the meetings held on the sidelines of the 146th Assembly of the IPU included the affirmatio­n of the support of Arab, Gulf and Islamic countries for the proposal of Qatar to protect religious icons and figures in the IPU-member countries and criminaliz­e the contempt of religions.

Meanwhile, Assembly Speaker Ahmad Al-Sa’adoun presided over the meeting of the Assembly Office on Sunday; during which MP Khalid Bu Sleeb was appointed Secretary General of the Assembly.

The Office also approved the recruitmen­t of fresh graduates and experience­d citizens at the Assembly, while a threemembe­r committee was formed to review the budgets of the National Assembly TV and Al-Dustour News Network.

On the other hand, MP Khalil Al-Saleh asked Minister of Public Works, Electricit­y, Water and Renewable Energy Amani Bugammaz if the Ministry of Electricit­y and Water investigat­ed the recent explosion in Salmiya B Power Station, which caused injuries to four engineers. He wants to know the results of the investigat­ion, measures taken to ensure the safety of everyone during maintenanc­e works in power stations, number of power stations that stopped operating in the last few years and if Salmiya B is one of these stations. He requested for copies of the report on the maintenanc­e works carried out in Salmiya B in the last three years years and a technical report on the current condition of the station.

MP Adel Al-Damkhi asked Bugammaz to clarify news published on various media platforms that the Fahaheel Road developmen­t project will cost KD1.3 billion and it will take 14 years to complete. He inquired about the criteria and technical studies on the cost of the project and requested for copies of such studies.

MP Abdulaziz Al-Saqaabi forwarded queries to Minister of Finance Abdulwahab Al-Rashead about the decision of the Council of Ministers on Aug 29, 2022 assigning the Ministry of Finance to coordinate with the concerned institutio­ns to establish a heritage village along Abdullah Al-Ahmad Street. He wants to know the steps taken in this regard and obstacles if any.

He went on to say that the Council issued a decision on Aug 8, 2022 assigning the ministry to oversee the implementa­tion of the Failaka Island developmen­t project. He inquired about the steps taken and institutio­ns that the ministry coordinate­d with.

He added a decision was issued on Sept 26, 2022 assigning the Public Institutio­n for Social Security (PIFSS) to coordinate with the concerned institutio­ns and Secretaria­t General at the Council to present a brief on the investment­s in areas along Sheikh Jaber Causeway. He asked about the steps taken by PIFSS and results of studies on the investment­s.

He also requested for copies of the decision to form the higher committee for governance of the sovereign credit classifica­tion of Kuwait issued on Nov 14, 2022 and reports of the committee on improving the classifica­tion of Kuwait. He asked about the obstacles that the committee faced if any.
