Huge quantity of drugs seized as war on poison pushers continues

Asian passenger arrested with 280 pieces of hashish

KUWAIT CITY, March 12: The Ministry of the Interior continues its fierce war against drug trafficker­s and smugglers, it announced the seizure of a large quantity of drugs, which consisted of 120 kilos of narcotic hashish, 36,000 Captagon pills, a kilogram of shabu, 250 grams of heroin, and 9 kilograms of Lyrica powder, 15,000 Lyrica capsules, and 50,000 empty capsules, from six brothers who were manufactur­ing and promoting Lyrica and Shabu powder and tablets, reports Al-Qabas daily.

After supervisin­g this huge seizure, First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and Acting Minister of Defense Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled reaffirmed that the country is fighting a fierce war waged by drug smugglers, and explained, “We will not allow them to harm our children and youth and rob their future,” and that “no one is above the law.”

Al-Khaled appreciate­d for the continuous efforts of the security men and all sectors of the state concerned in confrontin­g drug smugglers, and repelling all smuggling methods and attempts.

He called on drug control personnel to be more prepared and vigilant, and to exert all energies in order to pursue and arrest those who smuggle, promote and manufactur­e these toxins. Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled stressed that “no one is above the law, and everyone who cooperates, or fails will be held accountabl­e,” adding, “This is a covenant before God that we protect our country and our citizens.”

He pointed out that many families

have been affected by the promoters of deadly poisons that destroy the future of our youth, but Kuwait swears to continue the effort to protect the people of Kuwait and we will not allow these smugglers and merchants to destroy the future of our youth, and whatever methods they invent, we are on the lookout for them.

During the visit, the Minister of Interior was accompanie­d by Acting Undersecre­tary Major General Mansour Al-Awadi, Head of Human Resources and Informatio­n Technology Acting Assistant Undersecre­tary for Criminal Security Affairs Sheikh Mubarak

Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah, and Director General of the Coast Guard General Directorat­e Major General Talal Al-Mounis.

In addition, a security source told Al-Qabas that the General Administra­tion for Drug Control, in cooperatio­n with the General Administra­tion of the Coast Guard and the General Administra­tion of Customs, thwarted since the beginning of the current year 2023, and until yesterday, the entry of large quantities of narcotic substances estimated at millions of dinars.

The source added that the most prominent quantities seized since the

beginning of the year are about 500 kg of narcotic hashish, 17 million tablets of psychotrop­ic substances (Lyrica), 500 kg of Lyrica powder, 110 kg of Shabu, and 2 kg of chemicals.

Meanwhile, Customs officials at the Kuwait Internatio­nal Airport have arrested an unidentifi­ed passenger who arrived at the T1 Terminal from Delhi carrying with him 280 pieces of hashish , reports Al-Rai daily.

Accordingl­y, the man and the contraband have been handed over to the General Department of Drugs and Alcohol Control (GDDAC).
